Subject: Smoke on the Water March BBQ Throwdown Canceled by Silverton Casino
Reply-To: bettyjc2003@yahoo.com

To all our Judges
Today, the Silverton Casino BBQ Throwdown was canceled by their organization. After a meeting with all the executives Monday, it was determined by their legal department that Smoke on the Water had to have a Nevada Business /Promoter's License to produce the barbecue competition. Even though our contract was executed in January with no reference to the Nevada license. It was determined that it takes between 30 - 45 days for approval, we could not proceed any further. We take pride in our reputation and have never canceled an event.

We apologize for any inconvenience and/or expense that this unexpected cancellation may cause any of our judges. Those of you who have made reservations at the Silverton for accommodations should cancel ASAP to make sure that you are not charged for your room/rooms.
We are especially concerned about those of you who made airline reservations. Actually, we are in that group also - we plan to use our tickets for the May Laughin event because we have to fly to Vegas to get to Laughlin.

We appreciate you so much for volunteering to judge at Silverton and we hope that you will continue judging for Smoke on the Water at the Riverside Resort in Laughlin NV May 2-4, 2013 and again in Laughlin NV for the Smoke on the Water USA Barbecue Championship 10/31/13 - 11/1-2/13.

Well, clearly this letter was sent to judges only, based on the greeting. I would imagine teams are getting a different letter.

You'd think a professional promoter would make a point of making sure they were in compliance with all the local government requirements before announcing an event. Seems to me that either the promoter didn't do their homework or the casino wanted to back out of the deal and dug up an excuse.

Exactly....somewhere along the lines there was a lack of communication or some bad feelings
