I am proud to announce that Chad and Nicole Humphrey have put all their years of repairing and costomizing Backwoods, Spicewines and many others into making thier own line of smokers. I am also very proud that they want me to help launch this great new product. They will be rock solid smokers that can be fully customized to meet your needs. Shipping cost in the Northeast will be small and I will have some for pickup locally and can bring to comps with minimal added costs. Lead times are very small a few weeks unlike many other units. They have two base units for now but will custom build a smoker for you. Pm me or call me for additional information. 518 488 1015

Thanks Kevin

Ok guys here are the before paint pics. This is the Battle Box model with the optional slideout water pan. You can also get this with a drop in water pan. It has the heavy duty pined hinges and will also have the heavier latches that the Spicewine uses and built in guru adapter. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/08/uha8aju9.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/08/y9e6aje7.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/08/5emyhesy.jpg

Thats a nice looking cooker. One question, do you have to run it with a guru or is there another vent somewhere?

Sorry for the Aggie question. These battle box smokers are reverse flow - right? I can't find anywhere where anybody says they're reverse flow.

I did find one post where they said the battle box was based on a BWS . . .

@Smokinit,

Thanks so much for all the quick responses before via PM for pricing and shipping details. I have another question, as I continue to find/determine my next smoker purchase.

What are the grate sizes for the battle box? I know the specs say 5000+ cubic inch, but that doesn't help me all that much.

The specs show 22Wx28D. I would assume the grates are roughly 18Wx24D (just a guess). 3 racks at this size is about 1200sq/in.

That seem kinda accurate?

They are pretty much 15 by 22. We can do wider custom units also pricing is very resonable.

Not exactly sure. Since I've been I'll and still can't stand, I am confined to a wheelchair anytime I'm out of bed. So, the smoker would have to be usable from a seated position and since I really can't bend my back either, that makes opening doors and lids a challenge. A sliding front door would be ideal.

I bet that if someone developed one, there would be a market beyond just little ole me :)

Hey bud the 2015 models are run off a larger ball valve no pinwheel and they come with a larger fire grate. Would you like an estimate on a unit

Did Humphrey's ever build this unit?

Big Ugly's BBQ

Yes they did, I got to see it when I picked up my QBB, last sept/oct. it was very nice, well constructed, if I remember correctly, it didn't have sliding doors, but was modified to assist in opening/closing, and moving the grates around.

So it looks like the slide out water pan and the drop in, have the exact same cooking capacity?

Does the drop in have a fully sealed panel below the pan?

smokinit
06-18-2015, 07:01 PM
No the drop in pan has a heat diverter below it. The cook chamber is basically the same you just loose one rack space wit the slide out pan in.

Hello. I'm looking at a Battle Box at a local dealer. I was told that in order to have sufficient airflow through the ball valve, that I would have to use a Guru or similar.

Is this correct? Hard to believe, but wanted to ask the experts... rather than the guy wanting to sell a fan!

smokinit
12-11-2015, 02:27 PM
It will run naturally off the ball valve just fine just remove the guru adapter.

So the drop in pan version is not fully sealed from the firebox. Does this not cause heat and smoke to escape around the pan? It seems it would disturb the designed smoke flow.

Am I correct that the smoke travels between the interior and exterior walls, enters the cook chamber at the top, exits the cook chamber at the bottom and out the vent stack? Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm trying to educate on the design.

No issues at all with the flow of heat and smoke plus there is a piece of plate steel between the fire grate and the water pan to minimize direct heat on the water pan thus reducing water lose. Also yes the flow is as to mentioned they cook very evenly with the convect greated in the cook chamber.
