That oughta draw a crowd!

They put it on Facebook so guess it's no secret

Looking forward to it. Got to get my registration in before they fill up, which I'm sure will happen quickly now. Scottie said they were about half full now.

I'm thinking the same thing on the entry filling up fast.

I'm hoping to compete in the amateur comp - will be my first. And I was hoping to judge the KCBS comp on Sunday... glad I sent my application in early for that, too!

Since muffin pan chicken was such a big hit, I'm going to start my own trend with Deep Dish Pizza Pan Brisket.

There could be one more big announcement . March 1st is the end if early bird registration. Spaces are limited to 72 teams. Could be less because of the Pitmasters location. I know judging is almost full. And it wont be all new judges from the CBJ class they are putting on this weekend.

Pretty amazing how far the comp has come. Lugging my Jack trophy to the village board meeting to try and sell our plans for a Memorial Day festival. I think there were 26 teams the first year. Amazing.

Any idea when the amateurs can get in on the action? The site says forms available my mid-February... but nothing yet.

I think they are holding off until space needed for pitmasters was confirmed. There is another committee meeting next Monday and will find out.

Never been to Westmont, bu am already signed up and paid. Is it really some pretty tight quarters? Would it pay to come Thursday night? Maybe some of Favorite Illinois Brethren (FIB) will buy me a JACK DANIELS!

My trailer is 32' long pulled by a Crew Cab F350.

Jack Daniels is my American Express card, I never leave home without it. I've been thinking about towing the trailer to work thursday and parking it thursday night on my way home. The 10 minute commute from work to westmont makes this kind of a no brainer.

It is a Saturday/Sunday contest so Thursday may be a bit early.

I dont think they really want everyone coming Thursday night. I would recommend by Friday night though with a big rig. Saturday gets a bit crazed, because it does get tight the way they load teams in. Hopefully more of my ideas for loading will be utilized this year.

People actually arrive Thursday? As already said, its a Sat-Sun comp, I would think Friday would be fine, although it got crowded fast last year.

Tim, as long as you told them your dimensions on your entry, you should be ok, although with a rig that size they may have you park your truck in one of the lots after dropping your trailer

Scottie

No one drops their rig off on Thursday. They are marking spots and doing the layout. I bring my rig over that night because I have to park in my spot or Addington gives it away on me!

From what I remember, a sacrifice of a bottle of Gentlemen Jack, a bag of ice, red solo cups and a few 2 liter bottles of coke to make the BBQ Gods happy. I can't wait to do it again! Man that that sounds good right now!!!!!!:-D

When I told Addington we would come Friday for all the festivities, he metioned we could come in Thursday night but would have no electric. If that's the case that Friday will work I'll be there before 10:00am Friday.

Addington says a lot of things to make folks happy. That is what gets him in trouble by trying to do too much. Trust me, Friday morning sill be plenty of time. There are not that many teams there friday night. I was at my spot having happy hour, so I was there.

The ICP will be arriving on Saturday, mid afternoon. But, since we have 3 Cans and a cooler, we don't require much in the way of set-up help. Do you know if we can go really light and cook off of my truck tailgate and custom tailgate fitted cutting board? Then we don't even need a table.

Scottie
03-02-2013, 08:51 AM
Yes you can, Jeff. Except the village ordinance does not allow you to do that with a Cardinals hat on.

Fine. I'll leave it in the truck, but I'm not wearing a Cubbies hat unless there is something requiring it. How about my Blues Jersey?

I loved our spot last year. We were under a couple big trees near the hand glider ride. It was 10 degrees cooler there thanks to the shade....wouldn't mind having that spot again

Glad to hear you are coming, be nice to see ya again.

Last year it was 100+ degrees for two days straight you might want to bring an extra cooler to dunk your head in once in a while. :biggrin1:

There are 50 paid teams. They are not going to hold spots. No exceptions. If you are considering it, now is the time.

Scottie, do they email or send a confirmation for receipt of your money. I paid last week and didn't hear anything.

I'm not Scottie, but I did play him on TV :becky:

They haven't in the past, and I didn't receive on this year. I sent our app in last weekend and I noticed that my check was cashed on Thursday, so I have to assume that they got it.

Scottie

They send out communication about the contest, but not a confirmation. At least that is how it has worked in the past.

They are supposed to be updating the team list on the website tips weekend so that sold be a confirmation!

Dont lower yourself to that level. Wear the cards hat with pride!

Yes you can, Jeff. Except the village ordinance does not allow you to do that with a Cardinals hat on.

Its this kind of negative bias towards actual good sports teams that has me and Sweet Heat BBQ boycotting this comp :becky: (actually I do not think we have time to still register so I am making up excuses now of why we will not attend)
