I am still working on the wife to let me come to this one. The 22nd is our youngest sons birthday so it isn't looking good. Great job getting this going. Best of luck!

I'd love to make it Tom, but I don't think I'll be ready to go this early in the year.

A BIG Thanks to all the teams that signed up. We are overwhelmed by the interest, being our first comp & all. The plans are falling into place nicely and it's looking to be a great time for all. Here's a link to the teams who registered: http://kearneycoc.org/BBQKearney/Teams.aspx

I applied late to judge this contest and was notified last week that judging was full, but got an e-mail from Jennie yesterday that 2 judges had dropped out, so my wife and I will be there! It is a 3 hour drive for us so I will try to walk around after the judging and see if I can meet a few Brethren. Good luck everyone.

Here are a few pics of the event. I was trying to download the results but it the KCBS website seems to be down.

It's ironic that we were listening to cows moo while judging.

Also, I had the honor of visiting with Simon Majumdar. Interesting Chap he is... He was following one of the teams, Phat Jacks.

I'll try to post the results when they're available...

It looks like you caught us thinking hard about something. This was just our second comp, but we did manage a 9th in Brisket and 15th overall. Congrats to Parrothead and Pork Patrol for taking grand and reserve in a pretty strong field.

Special thanks to the people of Kearney for pulling off a very well run first year contest under somewhat difficult conditions.

I want to throw down a big " great job " to the organizers and volunteers who made this " Heatin up the Bricks " contest a great success. I actually believe this contest was run like it had been going on for years. Pork Patrol BBQ will coming back to this event next year.

Yeah the cows mooing was crazy, the guys at my table wanted to go cut one out to get fresh ribeyes, lol.

What table were you at hamiltont? I was the table captain for table 1. I wanted to meet you but wasn't sure were to look. We drove up from Great Bend that morning, and just inside the Nebraska line spun out in the slush and slid backward into the ditch, so we wanted to head home right after the judging. I didn't take time to walk around the teams like I wanted, although I did stop in to say hi to Kelly Wertz from 4 Legs Up.

It was a very smooth contest and a great area for judging, it looks like you have enough room to have 100 judges if you have room for that many teams outside. :icon_smile_tongue: Great job Kearney!

Hey David, I'm sure we met but we just didn't know it. I was checking the judges in and I too was a Table Captain at Table 5.

It sounds like you had an interesting trip coming up. I hope it wasn't as interesting going home! Thanks a million for helping on such short notice. Our goal for next year is 100% certified judges. I think we'll be able to do that with no problem. Yes, we could handle many more judges in that space. It really worked out nicely, mooing & all.. :-) I think out biggest limitation is electrical power but we have an whole year to figure that out. The Fairgrounds Team did an awesome job getting everything ready for us.

Thanks again for driving up & helping with the judging, especially in that weather!!!

Cheers!!!
