Being new here I don't know how many Brother are from the middle Texas area. San Antonio to Austin area. Maybe we could do a local get together?
What do ya think?
I live in Universal City, Far NE Corner of San Antonio, I-35N near Selma.

Zilla,

I am up the road in Round Rock (suburb north of Austin). I think it would be a great idea. I would be up for it.

I was in SA this week and took my son to the zoo. It was great day out but the zoo was a little weak!

SW Austin (Oak Hill), and NE SA (Windcrest) when I'm down there. Time should be much more available come Feb. when I'm down there.

Depending on where folks are coming from...maybe a Q crawl starting in Seguin at City Market, and ending in Lockhart or Taylor? Or spread all the locations out over time, depending on a consensus?

Jorge, sounds like a winner. Would definitely try to make it. I usually need 2-3 weeks advance notice to make schedule requests at work but usually get off any time i ask.

BTW, do you mean City Market in Luling or is there one in Seguin?

I like the idea of eating at Smitty's or the new Kreutz place. There is also Blacks just up the street from Kreutz. Or we could eat at all three! :icon_smil

stan
01-07-2006, 04:15 PM
I have only eaten at Blacks. It was pretty good. I think that maybe we hit all three! From their if we want to make it interesting we could go to another place. Ideas? Or will the 3 locations be enough?

frognot
01-07-2006, 04:28 PM
Lockhart would be a great place for a Que Crawl.

Along with the above three, there's also Chisholm Trail in Lockhart. I've been to Black's and stopped in Kreutz's and bought some sausage to go (couldn't convince my wife to eat at two places for lunch and we were running behind schedule that day.)

Here's some info about Lockhart for anybody interested.

stan
01-07-2006, 04:37 PM
I forgot about Chisholm trail. For places in day is probably enough! I like the first link above. I had not seen that one before.

Coopers in Round Rock is the 2nd BBQ place I ate at when I moved to the area a year ago. It was ok. The wife and I were the only people in the joint and the que was pretty dry. I think they are more of a lunch business then dinner.

Muellers in Taylor was good. Very interesting place. Could not convince the wife to go next door to Mikeska's.

We may have to make this a qtrly thing. We could do Lockhart Feb 11th. A couple months later do Elgin and Taylor. And so on.

May a Fl guy suggest this for the TXFO---?????http://bbq-brethren.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile_big.gif

Somebody--anybody--pick a beer that should appeal to most folks.
Maybe Corona, Mich, Shiner Bock, or what ever. Just pick one.
Buy about 2 or 3 cases and put it in a big-ass cooler.

Tell everyone to meet here at about 3 PM:
http://www.saltlickbbq.com/

Just to the south of Austin.
Commercial Que does not get any better http://bbq-brethren.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile_big.gif
Sit at the picnic tables and "bond" till ya are really hungry but can still walk.

When all the Brothers finally show up--let the lady know how many want to eat.
Chow down at 7 or so!
Bring "drivers" to take ya home--"dry" county with little tolerance- therefore the cooler.

The last date I saw suggested was Feb 11th. I intend to be cooking at Winter Haven, or I would even come for this!

Do it--make us proud.
Buy a hat--$16 but worth every penny!

Hays Co. does have a bit of a reputation. For those that will be traveling from Austin to Lockhart on 183 at any time, keep an eye on the speed limit and the speedometer. Several little wide spots in the road that appreciate your bidness :icon_smil

To Quote myself:

"The last date I saw suggested was Feb 11th. I intend to be cooking at Winter Haven, or I would even come for this! "

I have a grandson due in late Jan in the Plano area.
He is from "JacksonsDad" Stacey and his wife DeAnna!
Yippee!

Karen and I will give them a respectful period of time--and then we are coming to see out latest GrandKiddo--for sure http://bbq-brethren.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile_big.gif Probably late Feb or into March.

The Saltlick or "whereever" is "just down the road" once I make the trip to TX http://bbq-brethren.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile_big.gif

Now, if I gotta set up a TXFO Bash from here........y'all should be ashamed http://bbq-brethren.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile_big.gif

Feb 11th in Lockhart!

Should we say meet at Smitty's?? Around noon? That will give us plenty of time to go around town to Blacks, Chisolm Trail, and Kreuz's Market!
