I'll be flying into Portland on Christmas Day and driving up to my brothers place in Amboy WA.

Leaving on the 30th with a U Haul full of furniture back home to So CAl.

Anyplaces in particular I should plan my drive home around?

Probably the nature of the beast. Not exactly BBQ country up there. BUUUUT you could do a Smoked Salmon tour - like find places that do wild smoked salmon. That would an awesome roadtrip.

Seems to me there was a thread about this exact subject a couple of months ago.

My brother has a large stream that runs thru his property. I don't know when the season is, or if they're even running this time of year, but if they are, I'll be doing the smokin' :loco:

There are several places in Portland that smoke meat, I can't honestly recommend any of them heartily. What Portland does well is comfort foods, beer and beer food and fried potatoes. The BBQ is average to okay. Podnah's is generally considered the best, it won't disappoint, but, for food in the northwest, it is not what I would eat there.

Ping JD McGee and swamprb. They're from the Pacific NW.

In Portland go to Voodoo Doughnuts (http://voodoodoughnut.com). Legendary.

The local culture there is not to be missed. Visit the 24 Hour Church of Elvis (http://www.24hourchurchofelvis.com/).
