Well, I found commercial que nirvana in Driftwood, TX http://bbq-brethren.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

The Salt Lick is just South of Austin and "out in the country" a bit.
Met up with Greg Geilman (ggeilman here) and his wife Kara last Fri night.
I got the combo plate--a rib, brisket, and sausage.

Sausage was out of this world.
Brisket was fine. To be really (really) picky, a bit dry, but very tasty.
The ribs were to die for!!!!
"Bite off the bone" done and great flavor.
Those ribs would have been contenders at any competetion if they were trimmed to St Louis style http://bbq-brethren.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif
Gonna just get the rib plate next time and steal some sausage from someone else.

The Salt Lick has received mixed reviews here, so we may have just caught them on a good night. Guess I will have to go back to double check http://bbq-brethren.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif http://bbq-brethren.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif http://bbq-brethren.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

That is Greg in the middle and his wife Kara to his right.

Was good meeting up with Tim and his wife. The que was very good:) Great sausage and the ribs were tasty, but I got the family plate so I only got the end pieces so mine weren't as good as Tim's. I think I agree with Tim and will get the rib plate next time I go there. It was definitely worth the trip!

Salt Lick was pretty darn good on my first trip to Austin a couple of years ago. Didn't get to it this time, but did pick up a bottle of their sauce to take home.

I had a great meal at Salt Lick about 7 or 8 years ago when traveling through there. It is on my "Must Do" list to go back to next time I am near Austin.

I usually get the mombo combo when I first try a new Q joint. Always something good with those.

I have been in Austin a year now and have not been to Driftwood yet. I have had it catered at a couple company events and it has been very good. Additionally, they have a little restaurant in the Airport. Best Airport BBQ sandwich I have had at any airport and you can buy the sauce there. I have family coming down for the holiday I may take them out there.
