Very nice showing Doc and Kevin, and the rest of the Brethren that walked!! Looks like Trigg was up in there too!!

Who's Blazen BBQ?? Don't know if I've heard of or read of them before....are they a fairly new team? Most of the other names I recognize......

Again, Congrats!

EDIT: CONGRATS JIMMY ON YOUR 6TH IN BRISKET!!

Blazen BBQ is one bad ass Texan named Ronnie Wade. He won like a dozen contests in '04 including reserve at the Jack.

Ronnie could be the absolute best BBQer walking. He's definitely on the short list.

Thanks guys, but let's not forget Jimmy from Smoking Cracker too. He's doing real well for a fairly new guy. This was a big time contest with some big time cooks.

There are some great KCBS cookoffs in Florida and this is one of them.

Congratulations Ray and everyone that got calls. Glad to see my hometown team, Smokers Wild had a couple good calls.
Looks like the spread between Grand and Reserve must have been mighty close too.

I am real happy with 10th and a walk in Brisket 6th.
That was the biggest contest I ever tried.
Wow a lot of big time names all in one place!!!
As the rigs were pulling in on Friday and looking around is was easy to get overwhelmed....

43 pro teams on the Tally Sheet

Triggers, Dr. BBQ, Blazen BBQ, Bad Byron, Home BBQ, Smokers Wild, Woodhouse, Hawg Nutz, Bill & Dixie, Fire House, and on & on.

Jimmy, just wait until you see Lakeland. The big guns are all lined up down the old runway there.

Contrats to everyone. I judged but didn't get to stick around until awards.

I got to talk with Jimmy, Mike, Ray, Kevin, Rob and a few new teams - it was definately a preview of the winter season here in Florida.

Tim and I are kicking around cooking at Lakeland - but if that doesn't work out I'll definately head over to judge.

Again, congrats to Ray, Jimmy, and Kevin for their top 10 finishes.

Same from me Jimmy! I appologize for not mentioning you personally my brother! I got off into the Blazen BBQ thing, wondering who that team was, and well, the rest is just old age......

Congrats Ray, awesome day... I think you got your edge back, great job... And as I said on another forum.. For those who were wondering who Blazen BBQ was, you could almost hear a collective oh sh** when they pulled up on Friday, that should explain it. And last but not least, congrats to Jimmy. Looks like you had a pretty nice birthday.

Thanks Kevin and congrats to you too.

After I posted that last week, I got a little pissed at myself and really got serious about this cookoff. It helped that it's close to home and I COULD do some of the little things that get left out when I'm traveling, but I definitely got in the right frame of mind and it felt good. If only that Texan hadn't put that BIG score up.........

homebbq

Thanks Ray... Only if that Texan hadn't decided to go to Plant City!

As you say, that right frame of mind is probably the most important step (for me anyway). And for those who have cooked with me before, know that for me a big part of it is my music. I have a specific lineup of songs that I listen too, that kind of helps put me in my zone, and doing my thing... But, I think someone paid Jodi and Amy to put the worst band I have ever heard on stage during turn-ins, and had them play the loudest they could. They were playing stuff that I like, but they were crucifying it. It was pissing me off, and I kept telling Clara to get up there and tell that singer to SHUT UP... lol.. She kind of freaked when she realized I was serious...

So last night we went and bought an IPOD, and some headphones..

Man, you're crazier than I thought.
Now that you mention it, I broke out an old favorite lucky scratched up CD this weekend too.

I bet you got a Harley at home!!!!
Thanks for the good words Kevin it was a good B-day...

In Grant I got a 6th with a 615 and it took a 621 to take 10th in Plant City..getting better each time.

Grand in Grant was 640
Grand in Plant City was 667
27 point spread WOW

Mike L won't even return my calls since Sunday. I think my days of getting BBQ tips from my friend Mad Mike "The Woodhouse Grill Master" are over.....
