View Full Version : Hello

I wasn't sure about how to do this cattle call (not sure if I am doing it right now). I've posted twice- I lurked here and some other sites and finally decided to say hi. I heard about all you guys in Newsday. I built a smoker this summer- originally a barrel smoker with a wood box then I later married it to a propane grill after watching a bbq show on food network and seeing an $8000 smoker use gas heat with an automatic feeding pellet hopper. I figured, hell, I could do that for a couple hundred bucks. I'll post a pic sometime. I don't know it that qualifies as a true smoker because it is cheating a little bit. I read about you all talking about a certain kind of smoker you all have but haven't searched every forum yet to really know what you are talking about. Well thanks for having me so far.

Wecome John.. That was us in newday(my mugg on the front). if your in holbrook, your only a few minutes away from here.. known as Brethren Mecca...

We got all kinds of cookers here... no matter what ya cook on, if it smokes and makes heat, we can use it. Put up a picture and describe the pit a little more(maybe in your signature line) so when u ask or answer questions, we know what kind of pit your talking about. (is it an offset? vertical? water? etc...

anyway.. welcome to our mayhem.. start reading.. ya got some catching up to do.

John Welcome I am looking foreword to see the pics of the smoker. I am new as well and am still in limbo as to which direction I plan to go for a smoker. I currently only have a gas grill from Sam's and love it but am in the market for a smoker so many choices, types, methods, and heat sources. Great to have you this is a great bunch to hang with and learn from. So again Welcome:biggrin:
