This is not a sanctioned event by anyone. It's for backyard BBQers not professional competitors, although last year we had a couple pros.

What sets us apart is that no custom rigs allowed other than ugly drum smokers. Only mass market grills at this comp. We're trying to eliminate some of the intimidation factor and get the backyard pitmasters out for their first competition. We're the perfect stepping stone to the all weekend, sanctioned BBQ comps.

It's a one day event on Saturday, September 22nd. Check in is at 7:00 am with first turn in at 3:30, second at 4:15 and the last at 5:00.

Categories are ribs and chick that the competitors bring to the event. The third category is a mystery ingredient that the event organizers will provide at check in.

We use KCBS scoring for all three categories (see, stepping stone).

Buy in is $75/team with all entry fees going to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Prizes are $250 for each category and $500 for best in smoke (best combined score). There are also some pretty killer trophies. We'll have other throw ins as well. Like last year we handed out sacks of peach wood, basting sauce, and other goodies to the winners.

There will be beer sold at the event provided by Ferguson Brewery as well as AB products from the local beer distributor at $2/cup. All proceeds from the beer sales go to Wounded Warrior as well.

There will be a live band (Last Gnome Standing) as well as raffles, a 50/50 drawing, and a $5 drawing for a Big Green Egg!
