The event is for the Brain Injury Assocation Of Missouri......A good cause and one I didn't feel I should pass on. I am very fortunate to have two team mates, that even though they had other commitments for this weekend, fully supported the idea of a Brethren team cooking in this event. We (Spicewine Ironworks and Belly Brothers) are members of our local Beta Beta Que Society, and this is what we do, support our community. Teaming together gives us this chance. Are we in it to win it, I'd be lying if I said we weren't, but supporting the BBQ Society, our community, and showing others what Brethren do and who we are is equally important.

Thank you all for your support and kind comments, we'll do our best to make you all proud!

John and Darrell, I love you guys! And yes, I'm just on loan.......you guys would miss T's cobblers, cookies, brownies, hashbrown cassarole and beans to much for me to ever get away from you permanently....besides that, you'd probably starve to death.....

We did a little practice run on some chicken this weekend. I think we've got our game plan together for it. Used some ideas, tips, and tricks from local team MizzouCrew BBQ and Buzz, plus what we learned from judging, with few more adjustments to be made next weekend.
Jay, I think the chicken will be there......

It's over!!! It's 8:47 pm---I'm drinking a Meyers and Diet Pepsi W/Lime and trying to keep my eyes open!!

Here is the Down Low!!

RESEARVE GRAND CHAMPION!!! AKA 2nd place

It was a great experiance cooking with Kick and Sweet T !! We had a wonderfull time and would do it again in a heart beat!!! Not knowing each other's style, we actually worked great as a team and got the job done!!

We might have gotten Grand Champ if it wasn't for the almost perfect score on Brisket by the First place Grand Champ Team --PETA 179.998:-o

Things I have learned from this contest!!!

Kick -AKA The Diddler ( Batman's Arch nemisis) feels like he needs to stay up and watch the thermometer all night and add three lumps of charcoal everytime the temps drop 2 degrees. I told him " go to bed!! AND QUIT DIDDLING with the fire!! He got 1 hour of sleep !!

Sweet T--- Fred Bird and Spicebag tell T that it is a team Q tradition and a good luck practice to have a Naked dance of the wood nimph prior to bed time!! She didn't buy it!

Then we told her ( as we are holding a very large spatula ) that later we are going to play " Good Cook--- Bad Cook " We got a rain check on that one!!

This was an absolutely NO ALCOHOL event!!! But we had some real great coffee8)

All in all we had a great time and I am sold on teams coming together and shareing their skills!

Funny Thing Happend!!! Mark Hyman ( Grand Champ A R Inv. this year stopped by to chat with us . His son asked Kick, who had just turned in his pork if he could have a sample ( Mark's son is about 8 ? ) Kick gave him some pulled pork and as he was eating it , Kick asked " how do you like the Pork? " His reply was " It's better than my Dad's!!"

WE ALL WALKED !!!

Congrats to the MOFO's Best Brethren's BBQ Team- Great job this weekend. It's hard to beat a brisket score like that. Great job on your first place bird "T".
I really appreciate you guys coming out and supporting this event. It meant a lot to Aimee. This what Beta Beta Que is about. I wish everyone had your devotion to the cause!!!

Well.......I'm finally awake....Man, did WE crash!!

This was a fun weekend for a good cause. Just sharing the weekend with your friends is a great experience in itself, but when you get to Q at the same time, guys, it's heaven!

John and Jay, thanks for a fun weekend! To have never cooked together as a team, we really didn't do too bad. Three of our four catagories were cooked by someone that either it was their first time, or hadn't cooked that catagory in at least a year, maybe two. Then there's the pork, LOL.........OK, so at least I can diddle......

1st place chicken
2nd place ribs
3rd place brisket
5th place pork

Everything went well, and it is hard to beat an overall when a team gets a near perfect score in a catagory, PETA's 179.998 is an awesome accomplishment. I went down to talk to this team early Sat, morning, one of them says, "there may be something to this cooking sober..." from their brisket score, I've gotta find someone to take these guys out to a bar next time!!

Thanks to all the Brethren, near and far, that supported us....we are "Brothers In Smoke."

Picture in order, Spicebag, Mr. Kick, Sweet T, John (Fred Bird)

That sunshine was short lived!! It was raining and cold by turn in time.

It's hard to do a good turn in when the temps. outside are making the food cold before you can close the box.

I want to say again, that Gary ( solidkick ) and Sweet T , are professonal cookers!!! It was their attention to details that most impressed me.

BTW -- Sweet T did all of the presentation boxes and boosted our scores!!

Belly Bros. --You have some good team mates and should be very proud of them!!
