I'm wicked disappointed. I'm out, just got a call from a restaurant group I'm working with in Brazil and I have to fly down there for 2 weeks, ending on the Saturday of the contest. It's a heart breaker, everything had fallen into place for RI. Same smokers I use to borrow, entry to the contest, free flight. Damn. Maybe next year. Everybody have fun and drink a beer for me.

I really appreciate the great offers I got here for equipment and entry. You guys are truly the best.

Yeah, would have liked to have met Rub. We don't travel far, so any chance for someone else to visit is great.

As far as your cashed check... same here. I don't get the feeling that the organizer is as wired as he might need to be. I have an unanswered email from about a month ago, for example.

And now with this blurb in the cook's packet regarding no tent camping without an RV... we'll see.

Muzzlebrake
06-26-2012, 06:20 AM
Yeah I'm getting that feeling too. They did email me the cooks packet, so I'm not too worried.

It also says in the cooks package that sites are either 20x20 or 20x40 depending on what you chose on the application. Did I miss that? The application I filled out says all sites are 20x40

bmanMA
06-26-2012, 08:12 AM
Well, it seems URI has an issue with tent camping. So he's trying to work it out by pairing us non-RVers up with teams that do have RVs, placing us next to them and thereby trying to meet the letter of URI's edict that RV campers can have overflow tent camping. So he's trying for sure... which is why I have asked him to find out what they consider an RV. Because I dont think we can all cluster around ZBQ!

I understand you now require a 50 foot by 30 foot spot. That's more than 2.5 of my standard spots.

I'm thinking IF we can get you in that's a $500 entry fee. (For the record Lexington paid 91% of it's entry fees back in prize money this year.)

If you head south, you will find what I believe is the third largest fishing port in the world - Galilee. I am sure Patrick will correct me on that.

You can get dinner right off the fishing boat at Champlin's or Georges. Great views, relaxed and fun.

LOL @ ZBQ...since you asked...(sort of)...according to the 2010 version of "Fisheries of The United States" (aka the formal report on commercial fishing released by the US Dep't of Commerce) In both 2009 & 2010 Point Judith (town of Galilee) ranked 25th by gross dollars (32.2 million dollars) & 24th by weight (35.6 million pounds). It used to be waaaay farther up the ranking but the shift to New Bedford of the major players and a screwed up ground fish....nevermind.

For those that might wonder why ZBQ would refer to me for useless factoids on fishing. I am a professional sport fisherman, outdoor writer, charter captain and professional advocate (I don't make enough to be called a lobbyist) and the majority of my living is made working in the fisheries management system.

In a related note between arranging to pick up some sweet nuggets off a local boat and digging clams myself; I am pretty sure The Basic BBQ Team from Cape Cod will be putting forth a chowder entry. I'm ok getting embarrassed in a field with so many fine local teams rolling out Grandmothers secret recipe.

Really Erin? Have you been gone that long? :becky:

Georges - AC, parking, big sign, wait staff, no line: for the tourists
Champlins - no AC, no parking, long line (an hour if it is down to the bottom of the stairs), cafeteria style service: where the locals go.
Aunt Carrie's or Iggys are an acceptable substitute. :icon_smile_tongue:

Champins serves food, and also has a fish market if you want to bring it back and cook it yourself.

We might do a RI style "chowda" - not sure if the out of state judges will like it, but you never know.

Chris likes Champlins SOOOOOO much that when we go with him we have seen him order one of everything!! LOL - just kidding, however he has been known to polish off a big thing of steamers, a big fishermans platter and some clam cakes too :-)

FYI - all these places are a 15-20 minute ride from the BBQ competition so put them on your list of places to eat....lucky for Paul and I they are literally a 2 minute drive from home except for Iggys and Aunt Carries which are a 2 minute walk ;-) Champlins and Georges also border a state beach so you can get a nice swim in too.

Auntie Carrie's during the fall Striped BAss run is one of the reasons I am the size I am!!!!! That is local Seafood done right.

Hello All,
It has been a long time since I have communicated here on the Brethren Forum.
We are competing this weekend in Rhode Island, I would have to be crazy not to. The contest site is 6 miles from my front door.
The old Anchormen are coming out of retirement to do this in honor of a Teammate that we lost last year to a brain tumor, Billy Bouchard. We are all natives of RI and Billy was a long time resident of the town in which the contest is being held. So here is to you Billy B :clap2: And please help us so we do not come in DAL !!!

Just a friendly reminder: it's a tourist area in tourist season. That means you can expect traffic, and traffic tickets. The cops love to give tickets to people with out of state plates, so just be aware of the lower-than-you-might-expect speed limits, especially for people coming from the north down route 4.

Looks like I might have to show up on Saturday due to work , but should be a good weekend.
