View Full Version : Covington, TN and St. Louis BBQ Joints?

It's a long and sad story involving cancer and a 6 year old daughter of my cousin. Sometime in the next few weeks I will be driving from WI to Covington for a funeral. My heart is in knots as my wife just lost her 41 yr old aunt unexpectedly, and that funeral was a tough one. My brother and I plan to drive down on one day and back the next. With all that, do any of you have suggestions for BBQ joints around St Louis and joints around Covington? I prefer a hole in the wall place over the chains down there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

In St. Louis, if you are passing near the city Pappy's is the best there. If you are out near the county and its the weekend or the guy happens to be there, there is a little joint called Barneys, outdoor only, that is great.

I second pappys. Also try Bogarts. The pitmaster for pappys owns Bogarts, and honestly I like Bogarts just a tad better. These will be exactly what you are looking for as the are hole in the wall BBQ that when they sell out they are done for the day so call ahead.

Also I am very sorry for you loss.

Not far from Covington in Mason is a chicken shack called Gus's. It is a must go if you can make it.

South of Covington on Hwy 51 in the Brighton area, Post Office BBQ.
Large servings, good smoke flavor and no visible fat.
Have been several times with no complaints.
Closed on Monday.

Thanks everyone. Through lots of prayer and a little luck, the little girl is doing better. Fingers crossed I don't have to make this drive. Thanks for the suggestions.

Across the highway from Gus's is Bozo's BBQ. It's pretty good if it's still open. I don't really know of anything in Covington itself. As Guerry said, Gus's chicken is awesome.
