We are 3 weeks away from one of my favorite comps of the year. New venue this year which promises to only let the event grow. Who's in?

I'll be in for something as well, but not humble pie Matt. :-P I'm not sure I want to do another desert. Let's see what the theme is first. Are you guys bringing the projector screen again? I feel like more episodes of The League are in order.

Showers and real toilets are very important lol. I might avoid the showers just so I am not tempted to head into the casino while there. I can get pretty carried away sometimes

Absolutely! Sadly, we only rocked it one night at the ROC and most of us passed out before the movie ended. Now that it's (hopefully) out of our system, we'll be be hosting late night fun. We even missed out on corn dogs and tater tots at midnight. It ended up being our Sunday morning breakfast. So sad...

Seriously though - isn't it just the slots in the casino? No table games - right? (those are MY downfall)

That's my understanding....which is a good thing! Given a wristband that grants free beer and put a casino on sight? I might start seeing what some of our old trophies are worth...

They only have the slots there...I'm a semi-regular customer. There was talk of table games, but nothing yet. They DO have ATM's all over the place, so be careful. Matty B...I think there is a pawn shop just a couple of miles down the road ;) Gail, I can't pass up a shower...my partner lives right across the street, so I can always go there if isn't any hot water. I think the BB boys and I were up to 5 American Dollars and a rack of ribs for the first house by the park to open up for us.

It's a really good thing for me that they don't have table games yet... I love me some roulette...so much so that Kevin calls me a "dirty degenerate gambler" when we go to Vegas...

And Thank You ahead of time for not passing up on a shower.

Buckner Brothers will be there looking to avenge our terrible showing at Roc City (everyone asleep by 2:00 a.m., not our terrible scores - there's no avenging 72nd place ribs; you just have to take it and like it).

I haven't seen anything about a potluck. If nothing formal comes together we can fire up the propane burners and everyone can bring something to deep-fry over to our place.

Look forward to seeing everyone again soon..

A friendly reminder: we can only accomodate 50 KCBS Teams in total. There are 33 Teams Registered and Paid for KCBS already. I sent out a friendly email to 11 teams that were past competitors (2 of which gave me a verbal earlier this spring). I'm expecting 3 more new entries this week - 2 from the Midwest and 1 from Florida. If all the past competitors come back, there are really only a couple of spots left?!?!

I need a Team to volunteer to organize the theme and potluck for Friday Night. Please send me an email if you can lend a hand.

Here's something I'm really proud of you all for: 20 out of 33 teams have volunteered to participate in the Sampling part of the event. THANK YOU!!!! This is a fundraiser for the Patchin Fire Company - participants supply the samples, and sample tickets are sold for $2.00 a piece. At the conclusion, the PFC gets $1.00, and the participant gets $1.00. I can't say how much this means to us!

This is going to be a very big year. Lots of new things going on. Look forward to seeing you all in a couple of weeks!

Alright, Neil. You are on the hook, my friend. Thanks for stepping up!

You're in charge - you pick the theme. We normally have our Pot Luck immediately following the Cook's Meeting. Decide what you want to do for a theme, and send me an email, and I'll send out to everyone.

We have a designated "AIR CONDITIONED" room - called the Judging Area. Last year, we had Judges participate too. I'll have David and Eileen Bunn send you their mailer.

So themes would be Countries? Certain meats? Events? Comic Book Characters favorite foods?

Or things like:
"Bring anything you want as long as it is on a stick????"

Just need a little direction (maybe a few past themes) and we will come up with a good one...

Thanks ya'll!!!

So...
We at Too Sauced To Pork believe in the power of democracy. So here our our 3 ideas for a potluck theme.

Please vote on your favorite

1) "STUFF IT"...Bring what you want but it must be one food stuffed into another food

2) "Let your SOUL Glow" - Soul Food

3) "White Trash" - Use your Favorite White Trash foods to create culinary masterpieces...Pigs in a blanket, Tater Tot Casserole, anything with tons of velveeta, Fried Bologna...or possibly a kiddie pool shaped pan of chocolate pudding with Barbie Dolls wrestling in it...etc

Pick your poison Friends...Hell, anybody who reads this please chime in...Either PM me or post it

We will send Mike the answer Thursday morning.

Are you trying to discourage people from eating?:becky:

I really like "soul food" but no offense a bunch of country ass white folk trying to cook soul food sounds very white trash to me, I think they may be one and the same. Also didn't we just do garbage plates at Roc City?

I'm voting "STUFF IT'!

Fatties, stuffed peppers, cabbage or burgers or pork wrapped pork sound much more inline with BBQer's talents.

Got a couple questions for the powers that be:

NEW THIS YEAR: NO DEEP FRYING OF ENTRIES ALLOWED ALL ENTRIES MUST BE GRILLED USING CHARCOAL OR PROPANE FUEL, OR ASSEMBLED ON-SITE. For example, in the chicken category, the chicken must be grilled or smoked. It cannot be breaded, and deep fried. If a team wanted to garnish with deep fried broccoli, that would be fine as long as the chicken itself is grilled using either charcoal or propane, or both.

Dumb question and I'm pretty sure I know the answer but...
Does this mean I can not use my pellet grill since it does not use charcoal or propane (wood)? Just want to check before we use it and cheat. That wording of "either charcoal or propane" stood out to me.

#2
Does the Smores entry have to be cooked from start to finish, on site, in the time provided, between meat inspection and turn in?

example: Could we could a dessert at 2am Sunday so that we can cool it before turn in. Does it even have to be cooked entirely from start to finish at the contest? Just clarifying the rules since every contest has a different perspective on dessert catagories.

---- all the components can be prepared, but the entry must be assembled onsite. For example, your marshmallow cream can be premade. Same as your graham crackers and chocolate. None of it can be preassembled or be ready to turn in when you arrive. Your components will be inspected.

example: Could we could a dessert at 2am Sunday so that we can cool it before turn in. Does it even have to be cooked entirely from start to finish at the contest? Just clarifying the rules since every contest has a different perspective on dessert catagories.

Boston Hills was my first contest ever......we rolled in with everything we could pack into our rented RV and my wife, brother, mom and dad all helped out in various ways. We met some great people and had an absolutely amazing weekend (thankfully because it was our anniversary present to each other).

We did our best and were proud of every single entry we put in a box.

6th in ribs and 3rd in pork with 11th overall out of 42.

Not bad for some newbies dragging around a big green egg and WSM from the backyard. I thank you one and all for the information I have absorbed from reading this site and anyone who was at the fairgrounds thanks for being so nice to the newbies and tolerating all my questions.

Mike is a great guy running a top notch event. ZERO complaints and I encourage anyone to come out next year......you will not regret it.

Thank you mike for your personal help and patience with me.

Congrats to the meatheads and skin+bones and all others getting a call.

Great weekend on every level. We are hooked for good!!!
