The Fluvanna County Chamber of Commerce is proud to present its Inaugural BBQ, Bands & Brews, located at Pleasant Grove, Palmyra, VA on June 23, 2012 from 10:00 a.m until 6:00 p.m. This is an event for the entire family featuring a variety of activities including barbeque competitions, entertainment, and local vendors offering varied products and services.


BBQ, Bands & Brews will include a newly sanctioned Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) event in Virginia and as such will draw contestants from across the Commonwealth and beyond in the categories of pork, ribs, chicken and brisket. The Grand Champion of the 2012 BBQ, Bands & Brews will be invited to the largest barbeque contest in the world - the American Royal Invitational (Kansas City, MO) - and entered into the lottery for the Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational (Lynchburg, TN). All top finishers in the BBQ competition will receive invitations to compete in other sanctioned contests. As an official State Barbeque Championship of Virginia, this event offers local residents and visitors to central Virginia a unique opportunity to experience all the fun of this family-event in the beautiful setting of Pleasant Grove in Fluvanna County.

can't wait, this is gonna be awesome! i was a little surprised not to see some more local teams from the area. Oh well, this should be a great event! does anyone know when they will start letting teams in to set up?

Mee too. We are doing Swinetastic the week before and the funds won't let us do 2 in a row.

3-3.5 hours. Takes me about 2.5 to get from Richmond to Annapolis. Palmyra is about a hour or maybe alittle less from Richmond.

Remember our money will be 10 deep. So an great chance to make your money back. If the budget is too tight we only have two teams in the back yard contest. total $500 in the home town contest.

I intended to compete in this one, but my trailer won't be ready in time. Good luck to all competing. There is a slight chance I can manage it, but doubtful.

Who would ever thunk it that we would reach our goal of 30 teams with the big Dc contest and the Sam's contest plus the the other two NC contest. This proves that Va is a hot spot for BBQ competitions!

We are still looking for back yard teams! We have only one spot left for KCBS. It is amazing we got this many with all the big contest around!

Well it is almost over, and I wanted to thank everyone and apoloigize to anyone i anoyed. Planning for this contest has been a lesson learned and I can't wait for next year. All I have to do is do it all the planning is done! Tahnks to all. This site was probally the most impotant site to get info out in the BBQ world!

We are in the backyard (Heavy Metal and Fire) ! Our first comp ! A bit nervous, but just gonna try our best.

Anybody know when meat inspection is for the back yarders ? We were not gonna show up till Friday afternoon, but if we have to be there Fri at 8AM, I will come myself. Will be tough tho not getting home from work till 1AM Friday :(

I just read on the website meat inspection is from 8AM-5PM. The paperwork I got with my acceptance package said " meat inspection begins at 8 AM...." with no time RANGE. 8-5 is no problem for me to get to.

John told me he would be there all night and could inspect any time but you may want to call him to verify for sure.

just find me before you cook. I will get the meat inspection done. If you are in the back yard we can get it 8 am Sat morning.

We were planning on getting there right at 8am, to set up and enjoy the day, and ease into everything. how do i find you go ahead and get our meat inspected early, so that we can check it off the list?
