I would think in any of the vertical smokers any charcoal with low ash production is a good thing. http://www.nakedwhiz.com/lump.htm As pelkster said red bag at RD which is Royal Oak Lump (American hardwood) - great stuff in any smoker!!!

Thanks guys. I asked because I just ordered my backwoods gator and I will stock up when/if stuff goes on sale.
I had a stumps and stump told me specifically not to use KBB so I didn't know if there was a similar feeling about Backwoods.
