I have been lurking for several months. I started barbecuing because my sister-inlaw move here from Texas and wanted brisket which is not available around here. I did not care for barbecue until I got the Bandera and found out that I had never really had barbecue before. Since I got the Bandera in April I have done several each briskit, boston butts, picnic shoulder, turkey breast, chicken leg quarters, beer butt chicken spare ribs and fatties. I spent labor day weekend building a covered cooking area for my Bandera and to keep my wood dry. I go around after hurricanes collecting wood for my smoker. Is this addiction? :D

Welcome FLfishR; Of course it's not an addiction. we could stop anytime we wanted to. We just do it because it makes us look cool. We really could stop. 8) Honest, we could. We don't have to go out in the rain and heat and snow to tend our fire. It really is a choice. I swear I am not addicted, addicted, addicted :D

Welcome to you FLfisheR. This last weekend I got to do two of my most favorite things. Cook real BBQ in my very old Bandera and watch good tennis.

Welcome to the neighborhood.

Well, over the past week we've been asked if we're a cult and now if our passtime is addicting! :D

Answers: 1. no and 2. sometimes! :D

Stay away from competition and you'll be fine!! That's the "dark side"

Welcome Brother, addictive? Going to stores looking for the best prices on large cuts of meats? Running across town because charcoal or wood is on sale? We are not addicted, we are dedicated!!! The smiles on the faces of our families and friends when the bite into the food we cook is what we are addicted to. Welcome, grab a cold one and join the fray.

oh stop all the fluff guys. They will find out the secrets eventually.

yes it is..or it will become

an addiction
an obsession
a cult

Why else would someone feed a fire in the snow at 1AM.

Or sleep on a couch so your not out of hearing range of your thermometer alarm, or signal of your remote thermometer.

or wake up with soot on your pillow and your wife doesnt say anything(anymore).

Still smell smoke coming out of your pores when you take a shower, and you havent cooked anything for 3 days.

to give you some warning.... here is what we go thru.
