So do you think your Cluck is worth some extra Bucks?? Introducing the Great Lakes BBQ Association's Beak to Beak Invitational. If your team has the top chicken at any of the 2012 KCBS Events in Michigan including the 2012 GLBBQA Winter Thaw Cook Sponsored by Lockhart's Real BBQ you are invited to a Winner Take All Challenge to take place at the Silver Lake Apple BBQ Festival being held in September. With a guaranteed payout of $500 and a free entry in to the 2013 Silver Lake Apple & BBQ Festival worth $200 to the winner with other prizes to be added. So what do you have to lose?

Great Lakes BBQ Association Beak to Beak

Contest Rules

Contest meat must be inspected by a GLBBQA appointed inspector before any preparation may begin onsite. You may trim before arriving but nothing else.

Same storage/ handling rules as any sanctioning body uses.

Gas is strictly prohibited and fires must be of wood, coal, or pellet.

Turn in will be at 8:00 pm at a location to be announced the day of the event.

The minimum amount of individual chicken pieces that the cook will be responsible for turning in will be announced no later than 9/1/2012.

Turn in containers will be standard size ½ pans with numbered fitted lids to be provided at the event.

Garnish is forbidden as is marking or puddles of the sauce.

Judging will be done by certified bbq judges with preference given to individuals that have judged more competitions regardless of sanctioning body.

Judging will be done with the scoring system of 1 to 10

Entries will be scored in the following categories and multiplies:

Appearance -> .5
Taste -> 2
Tenderness -> 1



High and low scoring judges scores will be thrown out and the remaining scores will be totaled to determine places.

Ties to be broken using “Taste” points, if still tied then “Tenderness”, if needed “Appearance”, and if a tie remains contestants will perform a public rock paper scissors two outa three on stage at the awards presentation.

Event is by invitation only and there will be no passing down of entries. You must have won the chicken category at a participating event.

Greetings Beak to Beak Invitees -

There are currently four teams competing in the Beak to Beak Invitational on Friday Sept 7th in Silver Lake, MI; Big Brother's BBQ, Full Metal BBQ, Motley Que Crew, and Rubbed Smoked and Sauced. The other teams have yet to respond to our invitation or have been scared off by your super natural chicken cooking abilities.

You four teams will be cooking for $500 in cash, free entry to Silver Lake Apple BBQ Festival in 2013 ($200 value), free entry to Armada Meats & Motors Cook-off in 2013 ($200 value), Meijer charcoal and wood chunks donated by Cancersuckschicago.com, sauces donated by Plowboy's BBQ, injections and marinades donated by The Ingredient Store - FAB, rubs and brines donated by Oakridge BBQ, rubs and sauces donated by The Slabs, injections and brines donated by Butcher BBQ, brines donated by Mad Hunky Meats, and rubs by Lotta Bull BBQ.

**********PLEASE NOTE**********

1. There is a mandatory cook's meeting at 2pm located at my trailer. Mark, Troy, and myself will go over the rules, turn in procedures, judging, answer your questions, and will provide you with your half pan turn in containers.

2. Each team is required to have a minimum of 10 pieces of chicken in their turn in container.

3. Please see me when you arrive on Friday to find out who is doing meat inspections. Remember you are only allowed to trim your chicken before inspection for example no brining, seasoning, injecting, rubbing, marinating, blessing, curing or anything else to that poor chicken before we sign off on your inspection.

If you have any questions that can not wait until the cooks meeting at 2pm on Friday please send them to the whole Beak to Beak committee.

Thank you Mike, never had a 1st in chicken until this year and we have gotten 3 including the Beak to Beak contest. Guess it must be that little "secret". :)
