Figured nobody else did yet, so may as well pin this up!

Who's in?

So far, the sight shows 47 teams, and about 10 so far for amatuers.

I heard a rumor there might be more teams than last year. Is that even possible? Didn't seem like a lit of extra space last year, although it is a huge park.

We are excited to be bringing the new trailer out for it's maiden voyage (of about 8 miles :becky:

I suppose I'll go. Officially there are 54 teams entered. About 15 amatures, but that number will climb. They are capping at 65 terms, so if you don't have it in, better hurry. Having some heavy out of state influence this year. Me and my big mouth!!! ;) they are also reconfiguring a bit this year. All I'll say about that is... there won't be any mud slides this year....

Smokin' Croatians will be there. This will be my 1st year there. My dad judged last year and figured we needed to compete there this year. I look forward to meeting some Brethren there.

I suppose this goes without saying after my announcement yesterday, but we're not going to be cooking this year. I have been involved in every Red, White and BBQ as either a cook or judge, so it will feel strange. We'll probably stop by on Saturday night to heckle, errr, visit for a while.

Erin/Scottie - I will not take it deep like last year. I guess moderation will be the rule for Saturday night.. Yeah right - who's hosting the first round!!!!!

I might set up my canopy and tables Friday and return Saturday with the meat and rest of my gear. Is this allowed? Originally I had stated that I would arrive on Friday, that is why I am wondering.

Lots of teams show up on Friday to drop off their trailers. You may want to drop Chris a note to make sure they will have security on site if you're leaving tables and an EZ-up. It's a safe area but just in case.

I saw it too and considered it for a little while but just thought there were too many "what ifs" involved, especially if they get a lot of people to do it.

Got a "letter to teams" last night from Jim! Now I feel like it's right around the corner!

Interested to see how the layout changes this year. They are showing 54 teams on their site so far, although one has since dropped out :sad:

That was actually a draft letter and a new one should be sent out Dann. They have about 200' of the stretch where the carnival is located. They got pushed farther west down the street. They are capping it at 65 this year. So if you are on the fence, get your app in.

They also have high end meat like Duroc, Berkshire, etc as well. No cash, only credit cards. It really is an unbelievable store.

I stopped by last week and picked up a couple racks of Berkshire spares, 1 pork steak each of Duroc and Bershire, and some other goodies. Place is a food geek's toy store!:thumb:

This is what I am being told about the meat for the event....


"Meat for the competitors will be available for sale Thursday Morning 8:00 AM.
They can shop anytime but I will only guarantee quantities and pricing for them after 8am Thursday.
There is no special ordering of meat for this.
They need to come in and pick out what they want."

I'm definitely wearing some old shoes if there is any threat of rain this year. Ruined my pair from last year when we had to judge in ankle deep water with raining dripping down into the tent onto our backs and arms.

I'll try and get down the day before and meet up with some of you guys. It's always nice to visit and meet some great people to talk Q.

I have been promised great weather for this year so no need for old shoes :)

Ok - we have cut off new pro applications as we currently sit at 66. This is our max for the year and the most we have ever had. THANK YOU ALL!!! The website will be updated by Monday with the final list of teams. Also, there will be information coming out on the Standard Market Enhanced Prize Money. And finally (for now) Compart Duroc has kicked in another $500! This is for Ribs and Pork Butt only. It will be $250 each...first place takes all. Make sure to read the letter that is coming out as it explains it all.

Turns out Big JT's won't be there after all. Jimmmy got "THE CALL" from Jamie last week. The pit will be ready this upcoming week sometime. We're heading down to TX to pick it up Memorial Day weekend. It's the only time we'll be able to get it without missing out cooking on it a ton of the season.

We'll have it seasoned and rollin at Fair Oaks though!

I cooked the amatuer the last two years and they will have their hands full with that team count. Saturday morning will be a mad house on the soccer field. I wish them all well. I plan on loading in Friday afternoon so I will be ready!!!! I'm sure Chris is still looking for additonal folks to judge the amatuer if anyone is interested.

Is anybody staying on site Friday night or is everyone getting a room locally and showing back up Saturday? Do they usually have security roaming Friday night? We are arriving Friday but not sure if we should plan on getting a room for that night or just rough it for another night.

Had I known I wasn't going to be selected to judge, I would have liked to have cooked. :cry: Like Ron, I plan to drop by and say hi just the same.

They have security Friday night. Many teams stay and enjoy the fun. The carnival and everything else is going on. Send Chris and email. Not sure if Larry who organizes the judging has his posted? Usually they are looking for judges for amateur contest. If they fill up, you can have my seat for judging

We are coming in Friday to drop the trailer and then staying at the Clubhouse. It is a nice place and stayed there once a couple years ago.

Wish we could be competing at Westmont again this year. We had some scheduling conflicts and were unable to, but hopefully will be back next year - may try and stop by this year though. Good luck to everyone. Anyone doing the St. Charles competition in a few weeks?

Ill be at St Charles as well. I know Quau is going to be there as well. Gotta support the local company as best we can.

I know Westmont will be looking for judges for the amateur contest test on Saturday. Its right before the cooks meeting.

I had requested to be a judge for the amateurs but never heard back. I have never been a judge but would like to help and see what I can learn from it too.

Up late last night getting meat prepped. Cooking pulled pork for 160 today and then shipping out tomorrow. We got a hotel room for friday night so we can try and get a decent night of sleep before we get going Saturday. I haven't been this nervous/excited in a long time. Good luck everyone!

I emailed Chris/Jim this morning on the amateur judging offering help. Once I hear back I'll provide an update on what they may need.

I am planning on being on site Saturday afternoon/evening. I'm judging the amateur comp and then will be wandering around after the cooks meeting. I am hoping to roast coffee tomorrow afternoon so if anyone here wants coffee please let me know. I have Mr. Parker and Mr. Johnson on the list already :-D)
