Hello BBQ-Brethren,

Hightstown Harvest Fair presents the 1st Annual Hightstown BBQ Competition on October 5th through 6th in Hightstown, NJ. This event will run in conjunction with our harvest fair.

Our event is a BBQ-Brethren-sanctioned event.

We are a New Jersey State Championship event. This is an event which you will qualify for the American Royal for 2013 and/or the Jack Daniel's Invitational. Top prizes are to be determined and will be updated as information becomes available. Most importantly - we're gonna have some FUN. The event will be held at 148 North Main Street in Hightstown NJ. This event will be in conjunction with the 10th Annual Hightstown Harvest Fair, which includes vendors, music and a Kid Zone.

There is a 30 team limit.

Applications can be found at: http://www.hightstownfair.org/bbq-competition

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at bbb@hightstownfair.org.

Victor

Just cut my check for this one. How could I not try to get into this one when I live about 20 minutes away! I would like the nice, local comp if I can get in.

Looks like jacked up bbq will add another comp to their list, is there any room for bbq vendors? My spot is 30 wide by 20 deep?

Mailed out my judges application on Monday. Hightstown is 10 minutes from me. I go to this fair every year.

I actually do have a quick question after going over the rules. Are turn ins 7 portions and not 6? This would be the first comp I do where 7 is mandatory. I was just wondering...

This is not a KCBS contest. It is a BBQ Brethren sanctioned contest and follows Brethren rules, not KCBS. While there are similarities, they are different. In this contest a minimum of 7 portions must be in the box and they suggest 8. See http://www.bbq-brethren.com/BillofRights.pdf

When completing the team application don't forget to include the fire permit and send your pocket to the address provided.

We are working on two things:

1 – A welcome party for all teams Friday night

2 – Free concert Saturday night

Teams wouldn’t be required to leave till Sunday October 7, 2012 by noon.

I noticed that on the Judges application it says

"There will be a Free certified BBQ-Brethren judging class at 9:30 AM on Saturday for
all previously certified judges from any other organization."

If I am not chosen to be a judge would I still be able to take this class?

Prize pool is still be finalized as we wait for sponsors to return their signed agreements. As of right now our prize pool is $4150.00 and growing.

The entry fee for the contest is 250.00 the fire permit fee is included in that. For those who sent in your applications we will be sending you back the fire permit fee. Sorry about the confusion. I'm working on having the website updated.

Is the FP fee a county or state fee? If someone is doing say Seaside Heights, where they pay a permit fee, would they pay another fee? I havent been up there in a while, so I dont remember.

After speaking with our Fire Official this is what I was told. The Fire Permit is state mandated. Each town is responsible for the enforcement of the fire code permit system, which consists of taking permit applications, collecting fees, issuing permits and inspections.

went thru the same thing the first year at mt holly and after the organizers talked to the fire dept and explaned that we do not have open fires they droped the fee and permits. that is like saying every home owner needs a fire permit to cook in their backyard

We understand that this is the same weekend as Harrisburg but we are limited to this weekend due to our 10th Annual Harvest Fair being that weekend also.

We are still looking for teams and judges.

Right now our prize pool is 4350.00. Depending on the number of teams we have this amount will go up. If we get our max of 30 teams the prize pool would be in the range of $9,000.00.

Vra, I'd love to do the competition, since it's minutes away and looks like an awesome event, but $250 is too much for us. If you'd be willing to do a price reduction to help fill the contest out, as you only have a couple teams, let me know. At $175, $200 we'd probably do it.

Thank you for your question. I'm unable to change the fee. It was set by the committee.

The deadline is today and as of right now we have 3 teams signed up. We understand there are other events including the Royale.

I would like to thank everyone for their interest. Unfortunately the event has been cancelled due to a low number of teams.

I will be emailing and calling the teams and judges we did receive. Your refund will be returned to you tomorrow.
