According to the internets there is a RD near the airport in Vegas.

This, of course, means you can see the RD from the Mandalay but it is still a 30 minute drive.

(It seems like it is somewhat close.)

Does anyone know if there is a Sam's Club or Restaurant Depot close to the Mandalay Bay?

RD is closer. It is off Sunset just south of the airport. Just take Las Vegas blvd (the strip) south to Sunset. Make left on sunset. Maybe a 10-15 minute drive. Sams is on Eastern a bit farther away. I can can you exact directions if needed.

Bam Bams BBQ was team 92! According to their website, Dodge took up a bunch of space so they had to limit the comp to 100 teams. They are now full and accepting teams for the waiting list.

BurninTree BBQ
03-05-2012, 01:23 PM
Just saw on FB they capped the event at 100 teams. They said they ran out of space. Dodge came on as a sponsor and took up space in the parking lot

Craig Pippin
03-05-2012, 04:08 PM
What a bummer. I was just going to register today.

Sent them an emai as follows:

I was getting ready to register today and saw you were sold out.
Can I get on an waiting list?
I have 15 sponsors that have already paid their fees to me.
It would have been nice if you would have stated that there would have been a limit.
Please, anything you can do would help. I have aready ordered and paid for my meat.
Craig

Their response:

Craig, tried to explain, that this is totally out of my control. I had no idea there was a limit. It was just dropped in my lap today because CBS signed a major deal with Dodge Ram and they put them in my parking lot. Their space took up a football field, so they said I was limited not necessarily to 100 teams just to what I had now, which was 100 teams. Please hang in there with me, we are working on a solution. Thanks and will keep you updated.

Looks like they are trying. Hopefully they will be able to come up with a solution.

Don, at the beginning there was no limit. Mandalay Bay and ACM put a Dodge Ram exhibit in our footprint and it took up over a football field's worth of space. They told me I had to limit my teams to 100 and we're at that limit. Having an event in Laughlin and PB that I will honor the entry and will put you on waiting list in case somebody drops out. We just found this information out Thursday. Thanks.

Question Hello Ron/Betty,

I hope things are going well for the Vegas contest. We won the entry, that you donated to the KCBS Annual meeting and tried like crazy to make your contest work for us. Unfortunately we will not be able to make it. Jim Ballog with Sweet Peppers, will use it instead. He made mention today that the contest was full. I didn't see any limit on the number of teams or entry deadline anywhere. Will you be able to honor the entry that you donated?

Thanks,
Don Denner

Did everyone get the updated load-in / load out e-mails?

GOOD NEWS!! Don't know exactly what Ronnie did, but Mandalay Bay to allow load-outs Sunday morning from 7 AM - 9 AM if that is what you want to do.
Please let me know if you want to change to Sunday morning to load-out and I'll make the change.
Thank you for your patience and for helping me make sure I've got all your dates/times and needs for load-out on my list.

Betty Cates
Smoke on the Water Productions, Inc

We are working on our load-out schedules for the Teams who plan to leave the Mandalay Bay area Saturday (3/31/12) and Sunday (4/1/12).
The following are the Load-Out times that Mandalay Bay has set for SOTW teams.
Saturday Load-Out from 9:00 PM until 11:00 PM (there will be no electricity after
9:00 PM)
Sunday Load-Out from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Monday Load-Out from 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Please let us know via return email, your team name and your plans for load-out on Saturday or Sunday. We will make a "working" list from your response.
Thanks for your help - we will be sending out another email before the BBQ Event with all the information you will need to load-in (check-in) as quick and easy as possible.

I got this from Betty today...

GOOD NEWS!! Don't know exactly what Ronnie did, but Mandalay Bay is allowing load-outs Sunday morning from 7 AM - 9 AM if that is what you want to do - the 4:00 PM - 10:00 PM time is still good, so you have 2 choices. I just need to know whether you will leave Sunday morning or Sunday evening.

For those who were going to move out Saturday and park somewhere else to be able to leave early Sunday, won't have to do that now.

Please let me know if you want to change to Sunday morning to load-out and I'll make the change.

Those teams who said they were loading out on Sunday, if you want to load out Sunday morning instead of afternoon/night, let me know and I'll make that note.

Thank you for your patience and for helping me make sure I've got all your dates/times and needs for load-out on my list.

Toby, you might want to hit up Bam Bam at BBQ Island in AZ. They rent equipment and he's going to be competing. He may be able to help you out. He's regularly on AZBBQ forum, he's posted in this thread or you could call BBQ Island and ask for Cameron, he's a good guy who's always tried to help people out. If Bam Bam doesn't have space to bring it we've got some space in the back of the truck and will be there.

I know a lot of folks are going to be traveling to this contest and will need to rent/borrow/beg for stuff. I don't have much extra gear as I travel pretty lean and am still too new to have extras...BUT...if I have it, and am not using it, you are welcome to borrow it (until I need it again ). Not sure what "it" is, but it is free to ask. I also know a lot of the CA teams competing, so if I don't have "it" or am using "it", I might be able to point you at someone who could part with "it".

Post up your "its" here and if I have an extra I will pack "it"!

Appreciate the heads up on renting and kind offers to borrow equipment. I am going to need the following.

2 x cool boxes (ice boxes)
1 x cambro
1 x Extinguisher (sure the RV I am hiring will have one but don’t think it will be big enough)
1 x pop up (not sure what you call them in the states)

Anything I cant borrow I will buy and then sell off cheap at the end of the comp!

If anyone can help out at all please pm me. Looking forward to meeting everyone in Vegas!

Thanks

Just arrived back to the UK, got an earlier flight because my daughter was admited to hospital over the weekend so my mind was on other things, fortunately everythings ok.

I wanted to say a huge thankyou to everyone that helped steve and myself out at the comp, we caught up with old friends and made alot of new! Very happy with our overall 42nd place, and a shame for steve that they only called first place sauce because his came in second!

Congrats to everyone that took part and of course thanks to the organisers, hope to catch up with more of you at future events, if the wife lets me of course!
