Watching some bbq shows last night I saw a couple pits that had the grid suspended from chains and a crank wheel to adjust the height. Anyone know what these are called or has anyone built one before. I'm thinking about building one in the back yard and would like to see how the crank works.
Thanks,
Darren

I guessing you're talking about one of these. Some people call them Fajita grills, some call them Santa Maria grills, (probably just people from Santa Maria but I don't really know.)

Yup, Thank you, That is the type I was trying to describe. Looks like the one in the pictures hangs on a cable and has a lever for the wheel to catch on? I was thinking of a brick fire pit, but I do liked the idea of being able to move it around.
Thanks again,
Darren

Those are great pits. My newest dream smoker is the enlarged Bandera type (like Klose made for Phil) with the Santa Maria pit attached to one side.

I've been seeing a lot of new units that allow you to raise and lower the coal bed. Great idea, methinks.
