I was in Safeway yesterday and saw something I don't usually see there, a large brisket. I picked it up figurin' I might be interested if the price was right. $4.49 a pound! I droped it like a hot coal. Some one is makin' some money. Funny how the crappy cuts of meat are becoming popular and more expensive.

Here's another one for you. You know thoes chews you buy for your dog, rawhide twists, pigs ears and lamb's lung? There's all sorts of em'. Ever calculate how much they are getting a pound for those pieces of previously, practically useless animal parts? You might as well buy your dog NY steaks! I'm sure he (or she) would apreciate in much more.

Sounds like someone was on acid when they priced those briskets. Crazy. And what's really nut is they'll probably sell them too.

No typo - $3.49 and up is standard faire for trimmed flats at major supermarket. I got a rule about buying briskets from such stores - if they ain't on sale in their add, I ain't even going there to look. There are plenty of lower cost options out there - SamsClub (flats in cryovac - you gotta ask for them), Wal-Mart SuperCenters, Smart and Final to name a few.

$1.28 per pound at wal-mart. cryovac packer or flats.

Here only the whole packers are that cheap. Trimmed flats go $3.49 and up, usually $4.99. Noticed lately the trimmed flats have been prerubbed.
I just won't pay that for a trimmed flat that I really don't want anyway. If I want a trimmed flat I'll buy the packer and do the trimming my own damn self. Doesn't take but a minute to separate the flat and point and the fatcap is best left on anyway.

even down here in beef country trimmed flats go for $3.49 a # and up....can pick up a packer at Wally World or Sam's for somewhere between $1.18 and $1.49 per pound though.

Good thing I stocked up when Tom Thumb had brisket for .89/lb. for Memorial Day w/e.

I'm glad the local HEB and Food Town almost always have Packers for .89. Keeps me smokin.
