We had an excellent dinner at Blue Smoke last night. They set up an all-you-can-eat family-style meal for us.

We chose three starters (warm BBQ chips with blue cheese-bacon dip, hush puppies w/ jalapeno marmalade and chipotle wings). All were very good, but the wings were the best and had a nice heat to them.

We also chose three entrees, Brisket, Spare Ribs and Pulled Pork. The pulled pork was good but was chopped too finely and had a mushy texture. When I found a piece that wasn't chopped to small it was nice. The ribs were very good. They were whole spares, not St. Louis, and had a light glaze. They had a KC-style sauce, a mustard sauce and hot sauce on the table but I don't think anyone used them. The ribs were cooked perfectly and were bite off the bone, not fall off the bone. But, the brisket stole the show. Everyone at the table said that it was the best meat. It was served in pencil-thick slices and had just the right pull and texture, and it had a great flavor. It was easily the best brisket I have had in a restaurant so far. All of the food had a nice smoke flavor and was cooked with a mix of hickory and apple wood.

For the sides we chose pit beans, cole slaw, veggie of the day (Brussels sprouts) and greens. All were good, but the cole slaw seemed to be the crowd favorite. It is a vinegar slaw that was just a little sweet.

We were so full that the dessert was almost overkill :) but we chose Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Cupcakes and the cobbler/crisp of the day. Again, all were good, but the Pear Cranberry Cobbler with Cinnamon ice cream was fantastic.

The restaurant is a bit upscale for a BBQ place, but nice inside. Our server did a great job and I know that she received a nice tip for it :-D

may not be my first choice if I ever went to NYC but nice to know that they are serving a decent representation of BBQ!! Did they print your choices for you or were they THE choices??

In the city there are a few places were you can get good BBQ. There are many more places where you get crap.

Well, I did ask for recommendations, Buzz... That would have been the time to speak up on your preference :)

They sent us the complete menu and I was asked to pick 3 starters, 3 entrees, 4 sides and three desserts.

As I probably never will get to NYC it is kind of a moot point but my first choices would have been Italian, then maybe Italian the next nite with street food in between---then maybe would steal wife's cc on the last nite and hit some really great steakhouse--of course then we have to hit some bakeries too----time for a nap think I'm getting full already

I see. The team wanted some BBQ and Blue Smoke was one that was recommended most, and it worked out. We did get a great steak on Monday night and some good italian the last time we were here.

looks like it was a pretty good spread of food to me. I would try it if I ever made it to NY.
