Well, my girls got me the Longhorn for Father's Day (a little early, but they were gettin' hungry). I have to say, I like it better than my old Bandera. While we were shopping though, I saw a smoker that has both a horizontal and vertical chamber (best of both worlds?) but it was out of my price range.
Seasoned the smoker on Saturday. Did a fatty that night to crumble up in gravy the next morning. On Sunday I did a shoulder. The Longhorn was real easy to sustain the temp, and real easy to clean up, even w/o an ash pan.
Thanks for all of the input. Now, since I no longer have a Bandera, do I have to find another web forum?

Of course not.
Plenty of folks with all kinds of smokers, you know that.
And please send me you old Bandera grates :)

Congrats on the new unit Judge.... Isn't there a requirement of brothers receiving a new smoker to have a bash to properly break it in???

Is it really 1/4" steel? Some said they didn't think so. And what and where was the other smoker. Did you see my post about Academy no going to carry NB & Ok Joes anymore? I'm tempted to wait to see the replacements. I might buy a Longhorn before they're all gone, and keep the receipt and not use it until I see.

Forgot to ask, did you do any MODS? Have you looked into ordering the baffle from the Horizon Smoker guys?

Congrats Judge,
Before I saw this thread I added some info to your original topic. I see you've already cooked on it so you have it together and don't need my one man method to assemble it. Really think you'll like it more than the Bandera. Easier to control temps and more room for grub.

Yeah, it's really 1/4". Oklahoma Joe model. Not sure how long it has been sitting in the store. They're hard to come by up here. They have one at the Academy at Forest and I-75 that looks like it has been sitting outside for a year. There is another one at the Spring Creek/I-75 store, but it's missing the thermometer and all of the fire grates. We picked this one up in Mesquite (appropriately). It was already assembled. I took the firebox and smokestack off in the parking lot to make it easier to transport, so reassembly really wasn't a problem.
I appreciate all of the input.
So... DOES ANYONE KNOW where I can find a cover for the dadgum thing. All of the NB covers are for the smaller models.

Went to look, it's 3/16" on the Longhorn & the Deluxe. BPS has the Brinkman Cimmeron Deluxe for $550. It's smaller though.
Why can't I decide?????? :x

Ty, $550 is too much to pay for the cimarron, I got a deal on mine, $250, and its a great cooker @ that price. If you're going to spend upwards of $500, I'd check into what Steve at Bates pits will build you for that kind of $$.
Don't know what his pricing is like on smaller pits but his customer svc is excellent and it won't cost but a phone call to find out.
