We've been to the last two, but it doesn't look good for San Diego for us, but we're still toying with the idea.

We don't have plans to go. Will be the first banquet I've missed since 2004 when it was still at the Masonic Lodge in Kansas City, MO.

Next year the expenses will be covered by KCBS for you and it won't require the days away from work that SD does. I can't afford the time or money required for that long a trip without something else as a draw. I'm with Sledneck.

Wish we could make it, but by the time we get plane tickets, hotel room for $165 a night, (3 days), buy food and the tickets for the banquet...well, that just adds up to a house payment for us. Wanna keep the house.

There will be two of us there.
Long trip- hard choice.

OK - just could not say that with a straight face. Come on !
January in Minnesota or January in San Diego - not hard to make that choice at all.

Looking forward to seeing friends and making new ones.
Are the West Coast Brethren planning any sort of get together?
Even an informal one around a pool ( one that will not be covered with ice) or a bar or a hallway?

Thom - Thanks for the program time table - first I have seen.
and it is on the Brethren site - could not find it on KCBS site.
So thanks again.

Can someone who has been to a banquet before tell me how the team awards work? Like how many teams in each category get recognized at the banquet, what prizes they get etc? I haven't been able to find that information.

Thank you.

I'll defer to the "smokin butt" for amounts.

They do call all 20 overall and for each category.

They all get some well deserved recognition. If I remember correctly, they get pictures taken as well. Besides the applause and good natured banter that you see at a contest award ceremony.

It is really nice to watch

Have we found better room rates in the area?
Closing in on $200 a night...... Maybe...... but dang

Thom,

Check Kayak for San Diego - compares several travel sites . Maybe you will find something. Although anything with an ocean view from some rooms seems real pricey.

Have to count in the breakfast, afternoon reception, and free shuttle to air port to get apples to apples comparison.

Looking forward to seeing you again.
Good luck on the room search.

No, my state BBQ group is having their awards dinner that night. Driving two hours versus more than $1500 is not even close!

Seems like they have a Friday night meet and greet on the first floor at the Emabassy Suites. Seems like I read this some where.

Sorry,

Not able to stay for a Brethern gathering. Going to take the train down and back on Friday to check out the meetings and exhibitions. Returning by car for the Saturday banquet and staying around the airport for the evening.
Does anyone have a list of the exhibitors at this years event?

Thom and everyone -

I am getting in on Thurs afternoon.
Thom - I'll look to link up with you Fri sometime and see what's cooking
Friday night - we will go with the flow.

And yes it is confirmed, no CBJ meeting this year - what's up with that????
Seems like missing a perfect opportunity for KCBS to network directly with a whole group of judges, cooks , and reps. Do not understand the logic.

I have a new bottle of templeton rye whisky and a bottle of knob creek bourbon I'm bringing to the banquet to swap for some contest entries. Look me up!
