I just want to make it clear how to use the rib racks that come with the bandera. I saw a picture somewhere that showed the ribs weaved into a rack. I thought the ribs just laid across the two racks. Which is right?
Thanks,
Jorge

I'd go with the weave, unless you are 200% certain the racks and ribs are stable laid across the two, or just lay the ribs on grates.
I had them laid across once, and was bending over to put another rack of ribs on when a rack came loose and the ribs dropped into a scalding hot water pan. Had hot water and grease splashed all over my neck and back. I lucked out since almost all of it just bounced off of me.
My 2 cents.

Thanks for clearing that up. Looks like you found out the hard way, Ouch! I think I'll just use the rib rack when I don't have room on the grates.

You have to wind them!

I found the best way to use those racks is to put them on a shelf in the shed, forget about them and go buy the $10.00 charbroil racks from home depot. (The ones with the spikes on the ends.) those hold 4 racks comfortably, 6 if you usea the outside and bend the racks apart a little. I tried those bandera ones when i first got it and found the ribs laying on the grate below them when i opened it up to mop. Havent used them since.

Big AL,
Thanks for the picture, although I feel like quite a moron for how I have been using the racks.
I will not make that mistake again....

Russ.... believe me.. I tried your way first also.. I tied foirst the weave, but the slipped out, then i did the 'hamock where i sling them across both racks, them I slung a rack right over the ribrack so its just layed in the loop,(each track held 5 racks).. each way, they fell out as soon as they started shrinking. Frustration mod kicked in and i went for the gravity fed models. Suspended ribs just didnt work for me.

I have ribs in the smoker right now, and realized that I was stepping on the rusty rib racks laying on the ground. Never occurs to me to use them because they are a pain. I just lay the ribs on the shelf.

They work, if you wind them, but like Phil said they are a pain and only hold 2 racks of spares. (The crap you have to put up with when money is tight). Let's see, $10 bucks for a rib rack or a 1.75 ltr of Gin, hum, no problem it's Gin! I'll wind'em.
Today I am not using them because I have 4 & 1/2 slabs of Spares. I left the membrane on for the first time ever to test someones theory about the membrane will hold the moisture in when placed flat on the racks with the membrane side down....we will see, in a few hours.

Tried this once, and did not enjoy the results. Got a couple of rack at home depot and those were the best ribs I had done up to date.

Anyone tried weaving a bamboo skewer through the rack to give it sort-of a backbone? That way you can put them in across the two racks and have them hold up. I've done BBs that way a couple of times when the shelves were full of briskets and butts.

The Brinkmann rib rack works a little better but only up until it's time to wrap. The wrapped ribs are too bulky to fit in the slots, and after wrapping are too done to do the hammock mod. Extra shelves and/or a more conventional rib rack would seem the better answer.

I just had my 2nd experience with the bandera rib racks.....but they look so cool....wish they worked! Each time, just had to lay out flat on a rack. Maybe I should try injecting them with viagra, stiffen those puppies up so they stay in the slots.

That's why you leave them on the bottom of the 'dera's cart so you can look down and see them while the ribs are cooking on a shelf.

As I was looking at the cool rib racks resting on the bottom of the bandera cart, I wondered, "Could someone take those and weld them to a wire shelf?"

They find fairly well, but I don't always use them. It depends on space. They also work great for hanging pork brisket strips.
