Greetings bretheren. First post - been enjoying your expertise for a while now (saved a few briskets along the way thanks to you!)

My question.... This website:
http://www.bbq4u.biz/FAQ.html
is advertising the Nu-Temp 701 for $40 and the 751 for $30. Anyone have any experience buying from them? I went to the Nu-Temp web page and they're higher and backordered. I'd love to get a set of thermos, but cheaper can be better!

Thanks in advance...

might be worth a phone call or email asking how he's able to undercut NuTemp

He just might be doing a sheet load of business.

I think I saw a guys name at the bottom of the page.

Start with him.

Maybe its not full sets of probes, transmitters, and base units.

I used my NuTemp with two probes for the first time this weekend. I think I got a bad probe. One of them worked great, in the brisket, but the other probe that I put in the butt started out at 46 degrees, climbed to 52, then just stopped. I swapped probes and sure enough, the butt was up to 108 at the time, not 52. Fortunately, I had a spare Oregon Scientific with me (we were on a campout), so I was able to use that.

Has anyone ever had a problem out of the box with the NuTemp unit?

Thanks!

Since it is brand new, givem a call. They'll probably replace it, if you can get proof of recent purchase.

I would also boil water and make sure the probe is calibrated.

Mine have been either 2-3 degrees shy of 212, or one or two over.

Called the guy I mentioned above and he said he didn't sell the Nu-Temp for that price anymore.... That I found an old price list. Whatever.....

Do the Bretheren still get a group deal at www.nu-temp.com? Any other remote thermos that I should look at? I have a couple of the Weber wireless units, but I really like the idea of being able to monitor 3 probes from one base station.

Thanks!

I've got the NuTemp base unit and 3 remote units. About a year ago I had a problem with all kinds of wacky temp readings and found out two of my probes read 25 degrees high. Yeah, I know it should be dead nuts on but as long as I know it's reading higher and can adjust, I'm fine with it. My rule of thumb now though is if I haven't used them for more than a couple of weeks, I do a calibration check with boiling water. That way I don't have to wonder anymore.

Thanks much....

Sorry for the premature PM Phil. Didn't mean to jump the gun.... I'll wait patiently until I'm an offical member of the Bretheren and am deemed worthy to sit at the feet of the masters! :D
