I tend to enjoy the hotter hot sauces but there seems to be a new level of hot that goes beyond anything that you could possibly put in your mouth. Some one gave my 80 year old father in law some Dave's Insanity for Christmas and when he used it on his eggs the next morning at the family breakfast, in a show of apreciation, it looked like he might have a heart attack after the first bite. Does anyone actually use this stuff? I'm talking the over the top brands that come with a warning. It's hard for me to believe that anyone actually uses the stuff and enjoys it. I guess anything is possible.

Yes. nachos, chili, eggs, marinades now and then. Every now and then an endorphin rush is a good thing.

Ingesting pure capsaicin may have health risks (e.g., NERVE DAMAGE) and I've heard stories how it can permanantly damage taste buds. You can't get the same endorphin rush from chomping on a whole habanero?

I was referring to something like Daves Insanity which I don't think is nearly that hot.

Hehe, a post of mine from about a year ago might shed some light on that topic.

Dave's Insanity is GREAT in Chili... and in a batch of wings... drop directly on eggs? ouch... I prefer Tabasco Chipotle for that...

It's not. You can actually use Dave's as a condiment. This stuff can only be used while cooking - and you'd better be careful!

I like hot sauce. I'm on Carribean El Yucateco, but its not as hot as I'd like. I saw a woman on Food TV the other night put some 7mill Scovs in her mouth and not flinch

Believe me, I know hot, and one drop of Dave's Insanity sauce is more than enough heat. Give a bottle to the next bragger that claims he/she can handle any heat. Watch them melt.

I did that to a young USAF major once who was all about 'extreme'. I put one drop on a pile of sliced sausage; he slathered it on, against my advice. He did everything but go into convulsions. ;)
