Did the height of the stack change the way your fire burns, like more or less fuel /more or less smoke? I know it makes a big difference on a fireplace.

havent fired it yet just got it done. i will try tomarro for the first time. i noticed there was as much smoke coming out around the firebox lid as there was the factory rain cap so i'm hoping this will give it some updraft.

It's a thing of beauty. Now if you can just get it to go clink, clink, clink (the sound of diesel exhaust emitting from the chminey).

I've noticed on a couple of smoker mfgr's sites that they warn of increased draft when using stack extensions.
i'm hoping this will give it some updraft.
I'm sure it will. Best of luck!!

why do they warn of the increase?
so far i cant get the temps much above 200 but it is very windy. been adding lump but no effect to the temps.

why do they warn of the increase?
It'll suck O2 into the fire box faster and enhance ignition. Great if you're stick burning and will require adjusting for (decreasing) at the firebox damper if you're basket burning.

I hear ya loud and clear. I had the same problems with my Dera. You may want to try the "rock mod" to increase air flow if aiming the intake in the wind does not help. One thing to keep in mind that the Bandera is a fuel hog BIGTIME! It took me a few cooking sessions to realize that this bad boy wants to be feed in 'mast quantities' (sorry, conehead mod flashbacks). Heck, my last cooking session I was still be cheap with mah wood and had to realign my thinking once again to the fact that my Dera loves to be fed!
Please post back with your results of the smokestack extension. I am very curious to see what results you have.
Looks great BTW and hope it works as intended. =)

Malaki what's happening with the stack mod? I was thinking of doing something like that, but i'm waiting for your input.I wonder if you go taller you should go with smaller diameter.

so far it seems to work pretty good. i had to controle temps with the damper a little bit but not much. trying it again today with a 6# pork shoulder and an 11# brisket(my first one).
