I both emailed and called. No response to either.

It's a bit disconcerting that the organizer isn't responding to attempted communication less than 60 days out from the event.

Bunny - I'm a little confused by the term 'backyard' in the title.

This is a standard KCBS event, right?

Thanks,

She is a great organizer and just got this one together. Rich and I are guiding her as much as possible and she is very receptive to our suggestions. It sounds like it's going to be right on the waterfront which is cool, (therefore the parking a block away) and she told me she had been in a 2 day meeting and why she didn't respond to me for the last couple of days. She has, however, called me whenever she needs anything and if I call her she gets back to me. Shoot me your questions and I'll get with her and get them answered.

As far as the Backyard in the title, it concerned me at first, too. But I realized she doesn't know we have backyard contests. Don't let it throw you. It's a KCBS state championship. We need to get 15 teams out there to make it qualify for her first year as KCBS comp.:-D

I just wrote her with quite a bit of information coming from your questions. I also suggested for her to get her website up asap. Hopefully she'll have the application form on the site and hopefully she might lower that $250 entry fee. It was a suggestion. As soon as I hear from her, which will probably be tomorrow, I'll get right back on site and let you all know what I hear.

Bunny
08-28-2011, 08:38 AM
:doh:Oh yea, I also told her she needs to give you a space of at least 20 x 20. I actually think it's required.

I actually wish I lived there again for this. I lived 2 minutes from this for 5 years and about 5 minutes for another 7. This would be an easy win for some decent brethren as no one within 70 miles can cook worth a flip. This reminds me of when I lived in Tullahoma in the early 1990s(next to Lynchburg, Tn) and competed at the jack and had a walk.... five years later.... they became something... ten years later... a colossus. Things get big after I leave LOL... of course this New London thing never will amount to anything... just a KCBS contest to get a trophy then get an invite to something real only to have you ass handed to you by the real deal at a real tournament. But of course... you have to get there somehow, right?

Pitmaster T

They should save everyone's money and frustration and just hand clint the trophy.

On their web site it only references being a Royal qualifier. If they get a proclamation and 15 teams they would be a Jack qualifier. I don't know if they have applied for the state championship.

When they advertise 4600 in payout I'm assuming that it's guaranteed regardless of team . count. Doesn't matter though, we are purists, we all do it "for the love of BBQ ":-P

Here's an update from Barbara, New London CT organizer:

As for the spots sizes, I am going to offer 10 x 20, 30, 40 no additional money. I just want this to be a good event, so the moneys issue is not as important at this point.

For the alcoholic, as long as it is not out in the open and teams are discrete I do not have a problem with it.

Sounds good!:-D

I live 10 minutes away from New London and this is the first I have heard of this contest....hope it happens.

Hey Ted, it's happening, it's an auto-qualifier, it's 10 minutes from your house, and you aren't signed up! Hope to see you there.

To be a qualifier for the invitationals u need 15. Aut means that the winning teams gos to the jack without going in a draw since it would be the only contest in ct . That could change if another ct contest is added but not likel since the can't even get 15 teams for one contest:rolleyes::becky:

There was Norwalk but it was cancelled because of flooding. My guess is Norwalk will happen again next year.

There will be a contest in Windsor Locks / Hartford area sometime in 2012 at a national retail location, more info after the thanksgiving holiday

50/50 is still good. Norwalk, if it happens, would be after August 30th and would be for the 2013 Jack draw, not next years.
