On the kcbs site it's listed as state championship

Yes. It's a KCBS qualifier state championship. Rich and I are going to be the reps. Barbara Neff, the organizer, has run many events over the years. Sounds like a great contest. It's called Backyard Chef, but it's not intended as our backyard contests. KCBS teams are competing.
