how much is the actual cost of putting on a 30-50 team contest?
stuff like porta potties, water, gift bags, trophies, security, permits, etc etc.
i imagine it varies region to region, but what's a ballpark figure?

Smokin at the Maples.
43 teams
10K prize pool.... all entry fees minus about 15$ per team towards KCBS fees and a few comped teams.
Expenses.... about 9K.
off the top of my head..
Trophies
potties
golf cartS (<<< YOU WILL NEED THIS), AT LEAST 2, 3 IS BETTER.
Generator and fuel for generator
Event insurance $400/2 DAYS
band
kcbs Fees <<<< OUCH
Team breakfast
vending
VIP/Volunteer meals/tent supplies
KCBS now also requires the names of onsite security, so u may be hiring a rent a cop.

Damn... you guys get golf carts, generator power and a team breakfast.... Our comps offer public crappers, questionable power and you'd be lucky if someone walked over to your space to throw a few biscuits at you in the morning... :tsk: I can't imagine they cost more than $3-4K to host in the Pacific Northwest.

Oh forgot Trophies $1,500 -- this one I've notice teams really don't care about these, and many a team has told me so... I did my last contest with only $1,000 budget here, and I can go as far as $750 (still giving trophies through 10th place) in all 4 meats + GC and RGC and 1st-3rd in 1 or 2 additional categories... With a combo of trophies that still look great.

Oo[s forgot Insurance - $500 and Porta Poties - usually 10 with 1 ADA, 1 Gray water tank (250gallons) and a few wash stations- $700.

Really? We love getting little plastic animals. :thumb: Some contests also make custom themed trophies up here...Saratoga, Mainely, Lexington...cool stuff.

I am kind of fond of the one for GC :becky::bow:
I didn't know the cannonball on top wasn't attached and as I walked to my truck the ball went rolling across the field. LOL
Western Maine and Harpoon also have good ones. Some of the beer taps on the Harpoon GC trophies are real working taps, as a few GC winners have demonstrated by hooking up a keg to their trophies.

it is pretty cool to drink from a trophy, even if you had to make it yourself because Harpoon was to cheap to make a RGC trophy. ( and have any type of decent prize money pool)

Oh look we have a hater. One of the most popular BBQ contests in the country so they must be doing something right.
I dont think I've ever heard that story about the Anchormen winning reserve at Harpoon... why dont you or Ray tell it yet again.
