Wow we really get some low scoring out here In the northeast.

Wow! Look at those scores! Congrats to all!

Anyone following this region close enough to know what the wild card situation is? Surely 8 and 9 from this contest have to be in contention, right?

Congrats to all moving on to the regional!

Wow we really get some low scoring out here In the northeast.

We have been talking about this on the GLBBQA forum, because the last 5 comps in Michigan the GC has been in the 660's with one hitting 670.

Not sure why but very interesting.

Hey Arlin, did you judge this one?

Arlin_MacRae
07-10-2011, 03:31 PM
Nope. We weren't certified by the sign-up date. We were talking last night that we were glad we didn't, because unless the judge's tent was air conditioned (HA), they would have broiled alive in there...

Hey Arlin, did you judge this one?

They didn't have enough judges for this contest. They said they were 10 short. so all tables got 7 and 8 samples to taste. Troy Black said some of the judges told him it was going to be to hot to come out.

Sounds like you should have turned in a box with nothing but 6 cold beers! Bet that would have gotten you a perfect 180!

Too hot to judge?

Never mind the teams that drove X number of hours, set up in the heat, prepped food under an EZ up on the asphalt, slept on a cot, tended a fire and tore down without a chance at a shower.

A few of the judges we spoke with after the turn ins said they were instructed that no left overs were going to be able to be taken home. Due to liability reasons Sams has so they said instead of eating just one bite they ate everything. Several of the judges said they were to full and miserable when it came to brisket. Especially getting 7 and 8 boxes.

Yes, that's the standing rule at the Sam's contests, no take homes. Why were they getting 7-8 boxes?

Some great teams not attending Fort Worth, but still that regional is stacked. 20+ teams are ligitimate top 10. Hard to handicap this one.

That's to bad to hear they were short judges because of the heat. It will be interesting to hear if there short judges in Ft Worth this coming weekend! Hopefully they won't be.

I would not blame anyone for not showing up if it was 110*. This is just a damn BBQ contest and not worth anyone jepordizing their life if they physically can't handle that kind of heat.

There was a waiting list for judges at most of these events. If someone looks at the forecast and thinks they dont want to go due to weather, they should relinquish their spot, for someone that does want to judge. Last minute dropping is pretty bogus. No reason for it, really.

It's always that hot down there in the summer.... Midwest city last year was over 100 also, I believe. Luckily Arlin's concrete pond wasnt!!! :becky:

There was a call for judges (5), table captains, volunteers, etc. for the FW event that went out yesterday. Be careful with the short people stuff because we can be downright unplesant on other issues.:decision:

Well just to fuel the fire a little more...I was actually at the competition. I tried so hard to be a part of this that I had previously e-mailed the Reps my offer to judge or help in any way possible. They responsed and said that the judging was full but I could help on the Troy Black booth to pass out samples. Thinking that a judge or two may not show up. I brought my KCBS shirt and badge to judge if they needed an extra (just in case). When I overheard the same rumor I went to one of the Reps, told them I was certified and could jump in if they needed a judge. I was told no thanks and that everything was taken care of.....Beats me???
