OK, well nobody else had put this one up, so thought I would. Their site lists 43 teams so far, but hasn't been updated recently. We'll be rolling in Friday for this.

Who else is coming?

We're in. We'll probably pull in early on Saturday morning. Coffee will be ready at 6:30 on Sunday morning as usual and I should have bags available for sale. The price this year will be $12 due to the increase in green coffee prices. Exact change is welcome :)

Hi John! I have 5 lbs. of an Ethiopian Sidamo water process decaf, but I haven't roasted it for a while. I am planning on doing a test roast this weekend (weather permitting). So, it it is still good I'll have a bag for you.

No Kona right now. I may offer more Kona at some point, but I'm no sure.

As far as what will be available, it will be whatever I decide to roast :)

Shot Fairy has asked me to let folks know, if anyone had (and liked) the HogJam that accompanied Divemasters stellar ham dinner at Libertyville last fall, we'll have a case or two of both the Merlot and Maple varieties. It's a sweet and savory conserve that's great on a sandwich, a bagel, or a spoon straight from the jar. Pressure canned for safety. 8 oz jars are $6.

Also, a new beverage will accompany the apple pie on her rounds

I don't know if there is better info on the Rancher's Reserve thing. I still haven't seen anything that talks about turn in times, presentation, any cooking requirements, etc. All i know is I'm supposed to pick up some meat and turn it in.

Other than the obvious on the Ranchers Reserve, Since cut off is the 10th will they post a final list of teams soon?

Scottie
05-09-2011, 02:58 PM
The Rancher's Reserve will be decided on toniggt. My recommendation was sunday at 10:30 am, instead of 2:00. My second choice would be 2:30. Trying to grill a steak between brisket and 2:00pm just doesn't sound like it will fly. It will be handled as a 5th category that doesnt count for GC. So KCBS rules apply for turnin and garnish. If I were you guys, I'd skip this category. Too much trouble!!!! ;)

I know that they only had space for 3 more teams. So that would make it 60 teams...

And bring coffee Ron!!! I'll take as many different one's as you have!!!! ;)

BearCat
05-09-2011, 03:02 PM
I would prefer the 2:30 also there is just to much going on in our camp in the morning.

Scottie
05-09-2011, 03:31 PM
I think the 2:30 scares them because teams are trying to pack up and they want as many teams as possible for this category

BearCat
05-09-2011, 03:34 PM
Ahh that makes sense, ok 4pm is good. (j/k) what ever it is, it is.

Stoke&Smoke
05-09-2011, 04:16 PM
I think Scottie may be right, only a couple weeks out and nobody seems to have full knowledge of the RR details. Might be better off just skipping it.

I see on the site they are full, no longer accepting entries, but still showing only 43 teams on the team site. I assume if full they have 60 total?

BearCat
05-12-2011, 09:10 AM
The Rancher's Reserve will be decided on toniggt. ;)

I know.:-P

But when these side categories get so vague, they can tend to take your eye off the main 4.

I'll watch and see what develops with this. In the end, I just might have a steak for dinner Saturday at that comp.

I called and talked to Jim yesterday, and he was out of town so that might be why you haven't heard anything from him.

I am not competing in the Ranchers Reserve only because this will be the only comp on my schedule participating and it just isn't worth the hassle after driving several hours.

Plus I don't have a chance in hell of beating Ron with his coffee crusted top sirloin kabob! Oops maybe I wasn't suppose to share that.

That's no lie. I kind of gave up on it as I didn't want to keep pushing Jim about it. Hopefully some of the folks in the couple comps ahead of this one will be able to clarify. I still have an idea I'm gonna show up at that Dominick's and the butcher won't know what the hell I'm talking about when I say I'm there to pick up my steaks:rolleyes:

Wow, sounds like it's going to be the best one ever. The pit boss' (Divemaster) daughter is graduating college on Saturday so we have to miss this one. As always, family first. It sounds like you all will be having a great time. If we don't see you at Evergreen Park, I'm sure we'll see you in Willowbrook. Have a great time and we'll be thinking of you at 9:22.

Good luck to everyone competing! Kathy and I were talking the other day about how much we missed this competition. So many of you we don't get to see much anymore! We worked it the first couple of years and Jim and his crew (including Scottie) were just super. It is great to see how it has grown over the years and I KNOW everyone will have a blast.

Good luck everyone!

Congratulations to all the Brethren that walked, and especially to Scottie and Mike. And welcome back to the Midwest, Dennis and Cindy.

I was very impressed by how good the quality of the BBQ was in spite of the two hour delay. Great job by all the teams who hung in there. It was the first time I have ever seen a judging tent with half the floor space under water.

I managed to score 36 out of 39 which was still better than 40th.
Besides the weather, I was on two hours sleep and forgot the top to the canopy so my wife had to run back and get it. We finally got the top on 10 minutes before the first storm rolled through.

I saw a clip where this guy uses, butter, honey, and brown sugar on both sides of his ribs when he foils them up on the smoker. I have tried this twice and added apple juice but it lost the bite to it. I think for the future, I will go back to using apple juice only.

I am attaching a picture of my turn in box. For some reason I had run out of room when placing the ribs in there but turned it in anyway.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
-Porky Joes
