Hi,

I need some data on beer consumption/enjoyment by BBQ enthusiasts (especially competitors).

I would really appreciate your participation!

Thanks,

Eric

Since beer costs come out of our competition bank account, we would rather drink Natty Light and cook two comps instead of cook one comp with the high end coldies. :)

Plus Natty Light pairs well with almost any BBQ comp snack! We definitely don't skimp on the whiskey quality tho!

VT is one of the best when it comes to microbrews. Perhaps you should add some other options, past hour, past 12 hours, past day. :-D

It's been a LONG LONG LONG time since I've had one of the standard bland domestic
advertised to dickens beers, and then it was probably free at a party... While I'm
known to have a different beer in the fridge every week (I like variety/change), my
go to beer seems to be Newcastle Brown Ale since Michelob dropped their Classic
Dark years ago... I guess I was the only person buying it on a regular basis.
Currently in the fridge are Guinness Draft and Fosters. We're heading out taking the
kids to mexican tonight, so I'm sure I'll have 2 or 3 XX's. I think the last domestic
I had was 4th of July when I ran out of Sam Adams and had to borrow a few Bud's.
Otherwise if I'm drinking domestic it's usually Killians Red or Michelob Amber Boch.

I'm with Whiskey Bent on this one. Beer comes out of my BBQ budget, so I just drink their Natty Lights.

i'm a homebrewer for the past three years and a craft beer advocate since the mid-90's. me and a buddy started the "hoppy homebrewers of south mississippi" fourteen months ago and we've grown to 22 members.

i like all styles of beer with my least favorites being hefeweizens. my favorite styles are ipa's, double ipa's, sours and russian imperial stouts (in the winter).

I was a Pro Brewer in a past life and there was a stretch where I couldn't drink anything but micros or imports. Since then, I've grown up (and out), had some crumb snatchers, and added a new (and expensive) hobby called competative BBQ.

Now I have a beer fridge full of Natty Light. Occassionally I'll splurge and throw down some Schlitz or Mickey's. If I really go crazy, I'll get some of the best micro around SoCal - Ballast Point or Stone.

Of course, the beer is just a lead into the end game - 7 & 7.

Chad stays Chimay'd out...red, blue or white label! He sprinkles diamonds on all of his turn in boxes and wears only the finest textiles.

At comps...the stuff that makes you pee a lot doubles great as a back up alarm clock. It's easy to give that stuff away. If you have the good stuff, it's painful to see somebody taste one and say "this is terrible" and find your $4 beer sitting in the port-a-poop.

At the house...you can't beat Ommegang or Unibroue products. If you try to stack five or six of those up at a comp you would sleep through all turn-ins.

I guess Canada has produced Diva Q, Unibroue & Hockey...2 out of 3 ain't so bad! You pick the two...no comment here.

I thought this would be a good thread to ask for some assistance from you beer drinkers for some beer bottle caps. My new hobby is collecting beer bottle caps. I have almost 600 different caps in my collection. They are not all different beers, some of the caps are variations of the same beer.

As my collection gets bigger, it is harder for me to find new caps that I do not have. I have been fortunate to have friends that do not live in the KC area that have sent me caps. I would appreciate it if some of you could send me some of the caps of the beers you sample. These caps do not have to be micro-brews or imports, they can be yard beers or domestic beers as well.

If you would like to add to my collection, please contact me by posting here or sending me a personal message. I will send you money for the required postage. If you want to send me caps, my mailing address is:

Life is too short to eat bad BBQ, drink flavorless beer and smoke crappy cigars.

I'm losing my father here in probably the next few weeks or months due
to cancer. He's finally off chemo and decided that the quality of the
remainder of his life is better than a slightly longer life with no quality of
living. It is indeed way too short. Live, love, enjoy. I took the opportunity
go do a competition for 1 judge; him. I think he really liked it.

No more bad BBQ; no reason for it. I dont do restaurants any longer.

Free beer is free, so it's not terrible. However, LONG ago I gave up on
flavorless beer. I now know I like malty medium hoppy beers. I'll stick
with those.

Arturo Fuente and Macanudo for me from here on out. I even have a
few Opus X's stashed away for special occasions, like daughters wedding,
grandchildren births, etc. I've backed WAY off of these the last few
years. I'm now down to 3, maybe 4 in an entire year. No reason for
them to be cheap/crappy.

Live, love, enjoy, and appreciate.

So many beers, so little time! All good choices Lando, love Pliny and Damnation, used to get a lot of free Arrogant Bastard from the Stone guys when they sponsored a driver in the Atlantic series. East coast fave has to be Pig's Ear from Woodstock but there are so many more. And don't even want to start thinking about Belgian brews! Pretty sure Belgium is beer heaven!!

I'm old enough to remember when Heineken was about the only import and microbrews were virtually nonexistent. Everyday brew around the Woody household is Boulevard Pale Ale in the summer, Guiness or something similar this time of year.

Cheers all!

Boulevard makes some very nice beer, I'm partial to their Irish Ale and Bully Porter.

If you're further up North, Summit has a relatively new Horizon Red Ale that is very good, especially if you like things a touch hoppy.

New Belgium's "1554" is what they call an enlightened black ale, which is a nice dark ale with a medium body that goes down really, really well.

So many good beers, so little time.....

And here I am in frozen Minnesota talking about Texas beer.

Shiner bock or Shiner Black Label Lager are as good or better than any import --

Actually, Shiner Bock and Black Lager are 2 of my go-to beers. I think Shiner Bock goes with bbq as well as about anything. However, they aren't beers I'd go out of my way for. On the other hand, their Centennial ale was really, really great. I wish they would make that all the time.

That's like cooking comp ribs with Kraft Jalapeno BBQ Sauce.

You can see in my signature that I love my Shiner. But, they are not my favorite Texas brewery. Rahr and Sons in Ft Worth or 512 brewery in Austin make way better beers than Shiner Bock. Give me a Rahr and Sons Ugly Pug or a 512 Pecan Porter and I am a happy camper.

That being said, I take Shiner Bock cans to all my cookoffs, because it is the best with Texas brisket.
